He gave up 6 sack and had 13 penalties last season. Cross had the same numbers and there were grumbles of him being a bust. Just because he didn’t completely **** the bed as according to the peanut gallery here when picked doesn’t mean he’s a top end LT. Truth is, he’s a middling to slightly above LT. He’s an excellent top end guard. Now it’s deciding where he has more value. Call it the Larry Allen conundrum!
I couldn't give a crap about Cross, but since you want to bring him up...
Tyler played 1144 snaps, gave up 6 sacks and ended 2022 with a PFF grade of 71.4. Or he gave up a sack every 190 snaps. And was a monster run blocker.
Cross played 1088 snaps, gave up 7 sacks and ended 2022 with a PFF grade of 63.7. Or he gave up a sack every 155 snaps. I have no idea how good his run blocking was, but I would be hard pressed to believe he was better than Tyler, especially given his overall grade and being slightly worse at pass blocking.
And to top it off, Cross took snaps in camp AND pre-season games at T last year. Tyler had 0 and first snaps at T were done the week of the first game.
So while Cross was the 9th overall pick, had more time to prepare, he still was CLEARLY out played by the 24th overall pick at the same position.
And I'm pretty sure if Dallas drafted a player in the Top-10 and was that player was getting outplayed by a guy picked much later, we would be calling our player a bust too.
Therefore, my point stands. IF you can find a better LT than Tyler, get said LT and keep Tyler at LG. But that is a lot easier said than done.
But then again, I have no pride on the line if Tyler excels at LG or LT. He just has shown he will excel regardless of where he is played (well, maybe not C, but that would not surprise me either).
But as of now, Tyler is far and away the best option at LT not name Tyron on the Cowboys roster. And he's probably the best LT on Seattle's roster too.
