The point is you said Watkins requires a high salary as a vet. That's false. His salary last year was jsut over $1 million. He isn't getting more than that this time.Pretty sure those guys play different positions. Watkins role can be filled by a 3rd/4th round pick which would save about a million. I don’t think Watkins is good, he’s never held up against the run.
Fowler is great depth at the pressure positions. He looked good last season.
Watkins cap hit last year was $1.2 million. Golston was a 3rd round pick. His cap hit was just over $1.1 million. There isn't really that much savings between what Watkins cap hit would be and what a 3rd or 4th round rookie would be.
But hey, if you want to upgrade Watkins, fine by me. I could certainly deal with finding someone better than him.
