Pretty sure those guys play different positions. Watkins role can be filled by a 3rd/4th round pick which would save about a million. I don’t think Watkins is good, he’s never held up against the run.

Fowler is great depth at the pressure positions. He looked good last season.
The point is you said Watkins requires a high salary as a vet. That's false. His salary last year was jsut over $1 million. He isn't getting more than that this time.

Watkins cap hit last year was $1.2 million. Golston was a 3rd round pick. His cap hit was just over $1.1 million. There isn't really that much savings between what Watkins cap hit would be and what a 3rd or 4th round rookie would be.

But hey, if you want to upgrade Watkins, fine by me. I could certainly deal with finding someone better than him.

Yeah you’re right. Watkins is only 29…I thought he was older than that. But I’d try to upgrade.

Dallas knew LVE had neck issues but took him anyways in the draft.
Understandably, they wanted him to prove himself this past year after 3 meh seasons.
He rebounded into a solid-dependable LB. I don't get the talk about medicals as since the surgery his neck has not been an issue.

Only reason we wouldn’t be able to sign those guys is that the front office has managed the cap poorly. Not like we have a bunch of high paid players on defense.
Very true.

We make it a point of ‘franchise tagging’ non franchise level players.

I'd blow the whole DT room up and bring back Hankins, Odi and then get new bodies in there. Gallimore is a disappointment. Watkins is a JAG. Golston, who sometimes plays some DT is a JAG.

Agree that I would like to move on, but is there a slam dunk option out there or are we just rolling the dice on a new kicker? If you can land a Gould I'm all for it. Is there depth to the draft at the K position this year?
I don't know about another option, but can it get much worse than a kicker who melts in the playoffs?

Yes, you can end up with a kicker that melts in the playoffs and the regular season.

The draft is the wild card that I don't know much about the kicking class....it's not exactly a passion of mine to scout lol. As far as free agents go though it seems like you have a guy like Gould that would be a great acquisition but also should have several bidders, go back to Greg the leg, or maybe we see an unexpected name hit free agency. The limited options makes me think the odds of seeing Maher back with maybe a UDFA kicker to compete with in camp is a real possibility.

Agree with most of this. Not giving any of them max $ but if the price is right yes i'm bringing most of those guys back. Kicking competition for Maher and only on a 1 year deal, let him shake off the playoff yipps a little bit.

Fowler is probably going to get a few million more on the open market, and likely to get leapfrogged by Williams. I think he winds up somewhere where he can get 8 million or so and play 50% to 60%. I dont think either is Dallas

Pay Maher? Thats gotta be a joke. Agree on the rest.
It’s hard to say pass or pay without knowing what paying cost
I’d love to keep Wilson and I think Hankins played solid last year
Several I’d be interested in at the right price but I suspect my price wouldn’t get it done

I’d bring Maher to camp just to see. It is strange he went off the rails right after the league cracked down on devices assisting the kicker. Did that cause the issues? Can he adjust? Worth seeing if you don’t sign a proven vet but I’d bring in competition for him if I did

competition at least. He was good for 16 games. Think the yipps started game 17

I agree with much of these. I might quibble with Hilton - I wouldn't mind him being back on a cheapish deal. Hankins should be brought back. Watkins, I am OK with, as long as we have some sort of plan to upgrade DT where Watkins is simply a role player. But if the plan is Watkins and Hankins as your starting DTs, with Odi spread in there, that's just dumb.

Pretty much a useless exercise as we dont know the price. Personally I hope we dont sign any of them and get better replacements.

I like Wilson but he is going to get too much money on his one year wonder year.

Only 3 will be expensive. All others should be re-signed to contracts with zero or minimal guaranted money.

LVE: They have a problem if they don't re-sign him unless they sign a free agent (Bobby Wagner...).
Wilson: They have other options.
Schultz: They have other options that might be upgrades.

I would be OK giving LVE a good contract if not for his neck issues.

FYI: Odighi was the starting 3tech DT all season.
- Hankins/Watkins cheap role players.
- Gallimore needs to be replaced. His salary is about 3M if I recall correctly.
- They need to add a legit NFL starting DT. Either in FA or early in the draft.
- Unfortunately the options in the draft are limited this year.

In a perfect world, I’d like to have Wilson and LVE back, but I don’t think they will be able to match what they will be offered elsewhere.

But at sone point, we have to see what young guys like Bell, Mukuamu, and Coyle can do at safety.

And we also have young players at linebacker like Cox who really haven’t had the opportunity to play yet.
They should try Jabril at Safety. Not sure he'll ever get significant snaps at LB.

Well, obviously "pay" comes with a caveat. If Wilson wants to be be a top 5 paid safety, then we might have to pass. I don't know what any of these guys want.
