PFF Says this about Cowboys CB Anthony Brown

I mean... isn't that what happens generally when you're in good coverage, with or without pass rush help?

Not necessarily. Where the ball goes depends on a variety of factors. This statistic doesn't take into account any of those factors.

I'm impressed with Brown as much as the next guy but this is classic jumping-the-gun hype by fans. Let's see how Brown does starting snap-after-snap, playing the opponent's no. 1-2 receiving option this season.

He often was matched up with the No. 1 or 2 on the outside and held his own fairly well.

I don't have a problem with fans being excited about a young player who did well, or even a loaded statistic like this one. It doesn't mean he'll succeed this year, but it's obviously better than him sucking last year and being another wasted late-round pick.

I thought he was the best CB on the team last season. I think he'll be even better this season. It's exciting to think secondary could be our strength on defense. Jesus, can TC start already?!

I'd say Claiborne when he was healthy last year was our best corner.

Being that he was the LCB, he should have been targeted fairly well since QBs generally like to throw to their right.

Again, it depends on multiple factors. Did we shade a safety his way? Was his man running deep when pressure forced a shorter throw? Was his man running short when the lack of pressure allowed a longer throw? Our defense also was getting to the quarterback more in the latter part of the season and it would seem that sacks would be considered a coverage snap.

This statistic only takes into account the percentage of throws that went his way on all passing plays. It's nice that he ranks the best, but it's a weak stat.

It takes one of them into account, being in coverage.

I don't think there's a single stat in the world that wraps all context into a single number, so that seems like an unreachable bar to set.

I said that no stat is perfect, but this is a very weak one because it only really takes into account a corner being on the field during passing plays. Completion percentage against a corner is also faulty but is a better indicator of coverage ability.

He was good last year.

He did nothing flashy or amazing but he did his job and for a 6th round rookie that's all you can ask for.

A solid performance like that plus the athleticism he has gives me hope that he could develop into a good player for us.
Yes, AB moving forward is encouraging. Considering the pathetic lack of pass rush the entire secondary did OK last year. I hope we don't miss the guys we didn't re-sign too much.

I think PFF just likes to make up cool sounding stats.

I wonder where Brown ranks in yards allowed through the air outside the numbers in warm weather played on fake turf in an open air arena with multiple video boards?

Post of the day, lol.

Jerry, McClay, and crew during the draft last year:laugh:

nothing can beat this

ever.

I still say Dak in the 4th with our comp pick.

Oops -- I momentarily forgot about that one . . . observe me whilst I slink over to your side of that issue!! :muttley:
As much as I enjoyed the unexpected and surprising talents of Brown, Prescott amazed me even more.

Put them both together and roll 'em up into a big, warm and fuzzy Cowboys' ball and you've got a ligit winner!!

Whenever I see cherry-picked stats where they "arbitrarily" pick a certain number of games to tally I look back to see why.
the last 5 games were chosen = Eagles/Giants/Bucs/Lions/Vikings
That 6th game? Commanders, Cousins throws for 450 yards and 3 TDs

You draft what the draft has to offer.

Most of the best corners in the league were high draft picks. Sure, there are Shermans and Normans, but they are the exception, not the rule.

But we did draft a Deion Sanders type of player number six overall five hours ago. Or so we thought.
