PFF Says this about Cowboys CB Anthony Brown

He was good last year.

He did nothing flashy or amazing but he did his job and for a 6th round rookie that's all you can ask for.

A solid performance like that plus the athleticism he has gives me hope that he could develop into a good player for us.
Come on Catch, you should be ecstatic and fighting the urge to do cartwheels that the Cowboys found such a talented player in the 6th round last year.

Again, it depends on multiple factors. Did we shade a safety his way? Was his man running deep when pressure forced a shorter throw? Was his man running short when the lack of pressure allowed a longer throw? Our defense also was getting to the quarterback more in the latter part of the season and it would seem that sacks would be considered a coverage snap.

This statistic only takes into account the percentage of throws that went his way on all passing plays. It's nice that he ranks the best, but it's a weak stat.

I have to agree that their stats are a little confusing and arbitrary. Every one of us knows how bad our secondary was last year. To the point that the FO let them all walk.

But wait.........

That can't be!

For the lazy people, PFF ranked our secondary number one!

This goes to show fans that drafting CBs in later rounds like Anthony Brown is the reason why I would stay away from that position in the first round (unless that player has Deion Sanders ability and skill).

Brown still has to produce as a starter next season but he has saved Dallas from overpaying at the CB position.

A team can still find solid cornerbacks in later rounds.

Now the team just needs to provide a better pass rush which will result in higher Ints and pass break ups. I feel Brown would flourish if that occurs.

Ehhhh......to me that's like saying I wouldn't touch a quarterback in the 1st round because I can get a Dak in the 4th round.......

I'm still drafting the best player there whether its a CB or whatever. Had they drafted Ramsey last year it wouldn't have hurt them IMO.

Whenever I see cherry-picked stats where they "arbitrarily" pick a certain number of games to tally I look back to see why.
the last 5 games were chosen = Eagles/Giants/Bucs/Lions/Vikings
That 6th game? Commanders, Cousins throws for 450 yards and 3 TDs

Thank you.

Brown is a really good player. He had his mistakes last year but they were remarkably few for a rookie at a tough position to play.

He'll likely improve a good bit this season.

I can only speak for myself but I don't remember the last time I loved a rookie CB as much as I love Awuzie and Lewis. Rarely do I feel this certain that a rookie(s) will be very good.

I played DB my entire life and these two guys are exactly what you want.

That is 3 corners that I love on this team like I haven't loved any DB since maybe a young Kevin Smith. Frankly, I'm not sure I liked him as much as I do Lewis and Awuzie.

Throw in other guys that I like in B Jones, Heath, Scandrick and Woods and I am so fired up about the secondary. Finally. It feels like they can make a difference instead of me feeling like they can simply get by without being exposed.

Play makers. Alpha dogs. It's about time.

We've been drafting like damn beasts for the last several years, and now it's clearly evident we have a plan, a model that we're sticking too. An identity is forming. Me likey :) Great post, Asthma, you gem :)

I'm impressed with Brown as much as the next guy but this is classic jumping-the-gun hype by fans. Let's see how Brown does starting snap-after-snap, playing the opponent's no. 1-2 receiving option this season.
The way I see it with Brown, I think he is a legit top 3 guy on a roster. Thats important and his 2016 likely improved. However we havent seen enough to know of he is a legit top 1 or even top 2 guy.

He's is a guy we know can play the boundry and slot, and is a guy we know wont back down from the top WR's. But Im not ready to say he is the guy who will excel covering top WR's down in and down out. Only one year in we dont know enough about his tendencies

A fourth round franchise QB is a better value than a 6th round starting CB

Agreed -- perhaps you hadn't noticed that I made that comment as an afterthought in a subsequent mea culpa. My original selection of Anthony Brown was made in haste, so there you have it. Dak it is -- although Anthony Brown isn't exactly "minced meat," himself . . . ;)

But we did draft a Deion Sanders type of player number six overall five hours ago. Or so we thought.

There has been exactly one Deion Sanders type of player in the history of the NFL.

I can't stand Deion, but he's the cornerback I've ever witnessed, and second place isn't even close.
