PFF: Why the Cowboys' Offensive Line is so dominant (and why taking Elliott makes sense)...

https://www.profootballfocus.com/pro-how-the-dallas-offensive-line-excelled-in-2015/

Nice breakdown of the Dallas oline, but I wanted to focus on this:

The more I reviewed the Cowboys’ 2015 performance, the more I understood why they were willing to eschew conventional wisdom by taking a running back—Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott—in the top five of the draft. They gave their backs a clean run to the safety-level far too often to only average 4.7 yards per carry as a team. Getting a running back who combines vision with elusiveness and power will be a huge boon for the Cowboys’ offense. The scary thing is that, with four starters at 25 years of age or younger, the unit could realistically be even better in 2016.

This supports those "1300+" predictions. All Ezekiel has to do is see the hole and run through it.

"Kind of even getting out here with no pads on, you can see the line open up holes," Elliott said. "That's kind of something I'm not used to, a line being able to open up holes when you don't have pads on. So, seeing how the line is able to get you to the second level with no pads, it's going to be crazy to see what they can do once we get the pads on."

'Why the Cowboys' Offensive Line is so dominant (and why taking Elliott makes sense)...'

Because 4 out of 5 of them are first rounders (and because 4 out of 5 of the O-Line are first rounders)...

I didn't read the article. :)

Zeke was the most Romo Friendly pick in the Draft. Which has been a common theme for a long time, good job protecting the investment on an aging oft injured QB.

Love the pick based on immediate impact, his legs are young, his vision is quick and his burst is strong but it's his pass protection that makes this choice extreme quality mixed with some plain common sense. Best Player for Dallas but I thought they'd go Ramsey.

Let's just hope it all plays out like we think it will. On paper, it should be a dominant attack. A talented powerful zone blocking OL with a talented 225 RB with great vision, instincts, good speed and quickness.

I'll admit I wasn't all that excited with the pick, but man I can't wait to see how it plays out.

I'm with you on that, just because I didn't agree with the pick doesn't mean I'm not curious how this kid can run with the rock.

"85 yards in 8.8 seconds" I knew when I watched him play I was like this guy runs like a 4.3, he's faster then his 40 time

Please don't take this as I am tooting my own horn, but I had an extra gear during the game I could never find in practice. I was the fastest RB on the team and not really considered fast, but on gameday I had turboboost to get to fulled speed in just a few steps. I got ran down from behind on many occasions but more often than not I had an insurmountable head start.

I guess my point being, is that top end speed is overrated in a game that is played in 10 yards and a cloud of dust.

The ability to explode and retain that unseen ability, is way undervalued on the carpet...until one starts to accumulate footage of great plays.

I was a linebacker, who could keep up with anyone for twenty yards...but didn't have the explosion to make it beyond that point. You, Sir, are target on...as explosion makes for great plays. No doubt with that added to a picture.

Zeke fits our offense like a glove. But one difference I see compared to OSU is that we have a passing game that can really open up the running lanes even further.

OSU's offense wasn't nearly as balanced as ours is. Zeke could be even more productive behind our offensive line and in our offense than he was in college...

If things work out as planned, I see this team just bludgeoning opposing defense's with this running game.

Elliott, McFadden, Morris, heck maybe even Jackson. I think that this team is planning to run, run, and run some more.

I think that instead of following trends started by other teams, this Cowboys offense is bringing the power running game back into this league.

The same type of power run game that helped them to win three Championships during the '90's.

Well, it seemed to matter for Terrance Williams and Darren McFadden. How many times did we see them running out of gas and getting walked down on plays that seemed sure TDs?

The 49ers went to a Super Bowl with a dominate running game and Colin Kapernick as the starting QB. Colin freakin Kapernick!

I don't recall Twill getting caught from behind often. ?

One off the top of my head, playoff game against Detroit. TW is getting walked down and has to barely fall in the end zone. If he had better top end speed, the DB would have never even come close.
