PFF: Why the Cowboys' Offensive Line is so dominant (and why taking Elliott makes sense)...

If things work out as planned, I see this team just bludgeoning opposing defense's with this running game.

Elliott, McFadden, Morris, heck maybe even Jackson. I think that this team is planning to run, run, and run some more.

I think that instead of following trends started by other teams, this Cowboys offense is bringing the power running game back into this league.

The same type of power run game that helped them to win three Championships during the '90's.

There's the Stash we all know and love!

The 49ers went to a Super Bowl with a dominate running game and Colin Kapernick as the starting QB. Colin freakin Kapernick!

Yeah it was there running game that got them there. Definitely the running game. Same with seattle for that matter. Primarily the running game. Ravens too. And steelers.

I think the running game will be moderately better but I think the overall offense with Romo to keep the D balanced and the addition of Dunbar and Zeke to the passing game will make the most difference.

I actually didn't think the line started last season all that dominant. They got things going as the season went along, but it took a little bit of time.

They weren't. Starting with Zack's injury/stinger or whatever it was in camp, it took them a while to get going. Even then, they were up-and-down for a bit. Like that ATL game where Randle came out and took it to them and then we collapsed at halftime.

Overall, though, they're a very good group, and they ended up earning their keep last season when it was all said and done.

Great point that the Ramsey fanboys will ignore :muttley:

Why do you think the claim that the OL covered up the DL would be ignored by people who didn't want to spend a top-5 pick at a position that can be filled in the third round? I'm not seeing the connection there.

What happened to the OL during training camp was well documented, and that's why I can't understand why posters, that are here for every single day of the off-season, will comment on the "offense not looking crisp" at the beginning of the year as some sort of indictment against Jason's coaching or Romo's play.

The entire OL was injured last camp. Thankfully, nothing serious. But at one point, Travis was the only healthy starter, taking snaps with Weems and Berny. You only want to spend a Weekend with Berny.

They didn't really play much, if at all, together in camp. Cohesion is a big part of OL play, we all know that. Lack of playing time together and Martin's stinger being a little worse than advertised, and it should be of little surprise to anyone that they had to catch some steam first.

You mean OSU's Offense?
Yes true...they had a new OC, called the game much different. They went with Jones at QB over Barrett and Miller, so yet another adjustment. So naturally things got going more as the season went along. They had a pop in the offense when Barrett came in and eventually went to him. The entire offense to me was in flux all season.
The MSU game was horribly called game and cost them a chance to get back to the playoff set up.

The article summed it up well. Vision combined with the--ability to make people miss, which is a key quality we haven't had in a long time, will make Zeke a. Great pick and help get our team over the top.

Also, when getting into the open, and not getting caught from behind, except maybe if the DB takes the right angle at times.
How many times did we go....aaaarrrggghhh....when Murray was caught from behind or ran out of bounds...and we had to settle for a FG instead of a TD. Or he fumbled.
I feel those days are over, and we will be getting those TD's now.

Because, most of those fans were saying the run game is fine with McFadden and the OL.

You dont think our run game will be significantly better with Zeke as opposed to McFadden?

With teams being built to stop the passing game, that has been favored by the league for the past 15 years, this move could be foolhardy or genius. We're all (obviously) hoping for the latter.

I wish we'd start building the defense around that 90's philosophy, too. Speed, speed, and more speed.

God, it had better be, since we dropped a top 5 pick to find out.

I think Elliott's going to be a great player. But he better be breaking franchise records to justify the pick.

If the rest of Romo's career is characterized by Top 5 offenses and early playoff exits because of the defense, it won't matter how many franchise records get broken, or who breaks them.

True, even if Elliot turns out to be a top back we may see more of the same lopsided play we've seen the last several years. Until we get better talent on defense, it's not going to matter when the other teams are good, too.
