There is an obvious red flag to any team that's interested in Ravens tackle Jared Gaither: Baltimore is willing to move him.

The Ravens know what a quality tackle looks like. The fact they are reportedly eager to deal Gaither for a second-round pick should create doubt in the minds of interested teams.

I've wondered why Baltimore was willing to part ways, and got a clue Sunday in the Baltimore Sun. Ken Murray refers to Gaither's "half-baked work ethic." (That's better than wake-n-baked work ethic.)

Gaither has put enough impressive play on film that he's still among the more likely veterans to get dealt on the draft's second day.

Oooh, I'm getting a clue.

I can't believe how many people can't understand what is going on with Gaither and the Ravens. The Ravens wanted to move him to RT and let their recent 1st round pick play LT. Gaither and his agent balked at this move because RTs make significantly less money than LTs. Basically, he won't re-sign with them for RT money so they will lose him for nothing when he becomes a FA. The Raven do not want to pay both tackles LT money so they want to get something of value for him while they can. This has all been reported by Balt media and its a fairly simple situation to understand. It may be true that he has a poor work ethic but that isn't why Balt wants to trade him. They would like to keep him to play RT and pay him like a RT but thats not going to happen so they want a good pick for him before he leaves as a FA.

Thanks for clearing that up, I wouldn't mind bringing him in now if the price was right...

After thinking about this... NO team will let a future great LT get away via free agency IF he is truly worth keeping. I'd rather Dallas draft a LT or see IF Free can handle the left side.

The Saints let Willie Roaf go in his prime. It does happen. Not saying Gaither is anything close to Roaf.

Not quit, Roaf was allowed to walk at age 32. The Saints probably didn't believe he could play at the same level for an extended period of time (they were wrong).

However, Gaither is what 24, he is entering his prime, Roaf was at the end of his career. And again, Baltimore wouldn't have to pay 2 guys LT money untill 2014 or even 2015, when Oher becomes a free agent, so why not pay him if he's worth it?

Oher isn't making "left tackle money." His contract is tiny (5 years, $13.75 million). And it will continue to be tiny until 2015.

I can't believe how many people think just because someone is drafted in the first round, they must be making ridiculous money.

That reporter has no credibility.

Gaither is a beast.

you guys are reading into the weed comment, it wasn't about gaither, it was to say he is lazy but at least he isn't a pothead.

Not sure where you guys got that it had anything to do with gaither smoking pot.

He was the first guy to break the Quincy Carter story. Also, why would the Ravens take a tackle in the 1st round if they thought Gaither was their franchise LT.

There is a chance as well that he will be availabe as in free agency next year if him and the Ravens can't agree on a long term contract. I would rather wait a year and get him instead of giving up a pick.

It's also possible that the Cowboys don't even want him.

Ken Murray?
I guess I was wrong then. I always remembered it as Florio being the one to break the story before anyone else even heard about it.

"Beasts" on the field aren't generally lazy folk.

how obvious do my jokes need to be?

seriously.

credibility? who is the only one on here who uses that word, who is also the only one pimping gaither like it's his sugar daddy?

it shouldn't be this hard for people to see jokes.

LOL, I thought you were serious too. Really didn't sell it hard enough, folks who are in Gaither's corner are far more hyped than that

I also thought he was serious too so you're not the only one who didn't get the joke.

And I'm on this board a lot so Slate references don't usually go over my head.

Florio has nothing to do with this. The PFT post is by Gregg Rosenthal and Rosenthal is only quoting Ken Murray, who writes for the Baltimore Sun.

Murray is the one that said that Gaither has a "half-baked work ethic."

ITs hard to take anything in the Daily Turd seriously.
But there do seem to be multiple reports that he is lazy.
My question would be how does he play. If he plays lazy then good riddance.

They may think Oher is a better LT. They also may feel Oher's talent isn't being utilized at RT.

It's cost effective. They will save a ton of money playing Oher at LT with his current contract. Gaither want's a LT contract now. Probably somewhere in the 45-50 mil range. You wouldn't have to pay that if Gaither isn't there. Oher will not ask for another contract for another 2 years or so. Meanwhile your saving alot of money between then.

Gaither will be an UFA next year, so why not get something for him now?

I think it's a pretty simple concept.

Oh, sure, you'll save money by not re-signing good players. That's a given. Whether it's the right decision or not is another thing. I don't know what their full personnel situation is, so I can't really make that determination.

But the poster I was replying seemed confident he knew something everyone else didn't. Unfortunately, he was mistaken in his basic assumptions.
