PFT: An “exclusive window” would be a waste of time

Lately we’ve seen several suggestions regarding the use of an exclusive negotiating window once the lockout ends. It’s a potential solution to the problem of owners wanting a right of first refusal for fourth- and fifth-year guys who won’t be restricted free agents if the threshold for UFA status reverts to four seasons. And Albert Breer of NFL Network pointed out earlier today that it’s something that could apply on an across-the-board basis to all free agents, giving their current teams the sole ability to negotiate with the looming free agents.

That said, it’s a waste of time.

Florio's probably right this time. Agents will have a good idea of the interest level in their clients and won't sign if they know a better offer is out there.
