Will McClay: Taco Charlton better fit for Cowboys than T.J. Watt
ByPATRIK WALKER May 4, 2017

There hasn't been a practice held or a snap taken and already Dallas Cowboys' rookie pass rusher Taco Charlton has been labeled a draft bust by some.

Selected 28th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, many had him graded much lower and saw the team taking the more popular -- and then still-available -- T.J. Watt out of Wisconsin. It was not to be, however, as Assistant Director of Player Personnel and Senior Director of College and Pro Scouting Will McClay saw it all differently than most when it came to lining the two young talents up side-by-side.

In the end, he says Charlton can step in right now at the defensive end position and be one of the more potent ones in the league.

No idea why people claim Will McClay is some genius. I guess it's more that he is better than the Jones family (which a monkey throwing poo at a board is better than they are). But he has a ton of head scratching draft picks that hold us back from building a very good nucleus. Namely after the 1st round. Back to back years, we drafted Jaylon Smith and Taco with very high picks. Both terrible. Picking Kelvin Joseph over Asante Samuel Jr. Conner Williams in the 2nd round 2018. LVE in the 1st.

Does he hit on picks? Sure. But every franchise does. He doesn't hit enough to build a great team. Or utilize the free agency.

We need to place the blame on our wonderful owner for hiring Rod Marinelli and sticking with him for so long. I'm so glad him and Garrett is gone. But the damage is done.

Lame.

Another question that could be asked is "does every franchise miss on picks?"

Keep picking those cherries

The last week has been pretty brutal for ex-Cowboys. La'el Collins tore his ACL and MCL. Trysten Hill injured his knee as well and was placed on IR by the Cards. Randy Gregory punched a guy and go suspended. And Taco Charlton got cut by the Bears. 8 days ago Malik Turner was released by the Raiders.

I give him credit for managing to make over $10 million in career earnings in spite of it. Good work if you can get it.
And for creating the Dallas DLine nickname "Hot Boyz" (according to Wikipedia).

I see on the Cowboys Instagram stories or whatever where they show the players departing for Tennessee, that Dante Fowler had a Hot Boyz pendant on.

So if you thought that was dead it's not. Fowler just got here this year.

T.T Oh the shame!

Jaylon was all on Jerry so blaming McClay for that makes your whole argument fall apart
and prove that he was the main reason for those other duds. You can't but that does not fit your agenda, does it?

He hasn’t played in the right scheme yet . If the Giants can get mileage out of Jaylon Smith plug Taco into a situational edge Rush . You heard it here first .
Go watch tape of J. Smith this year for the Giants. Hes stiff, slow and plays like he doesnt understand whats happening around him... Its shockingly bad. Zero read & react speed....Zero.

I think that was a Rod Marrinelli mistake. I think they felt he didn't fit their scheme. They wanted Length and Taco right or wrong had length. Just didn't have any other redeeming features such as talent and didn't play hard. The Watt brothers are like Dracula, you have to stake them in the heart to get rid of them. Their middle names are hustle.

He seems he has speed, but zero power and zero change of direction. Not a good thing for anyone who plays football.

We should sign him…it’d be a good chance to bring in real competition on the defensive line…
