PFT: 'Boys Low-balled Wade... on initial offer

Jerry didn't get to be a billionaire for nothing...

Why not save a few mil. He just paid 20 mil to a coach who has a much more impressive resume than Wade and didn't get it done. You think he wants to drop another 20 mil on him. Why not see how badly he wants it and then go from there?

Indeed!

Wade will not get what he deserves. He will get what he negotiates.

My only concern is that he was indifferent between Norv and Phillips and he thought he could save a few million with Phillips. Jerry has a history (Donahue).

I'm still hoping it all falls through and neither Wade nor Norval are hired.

The only better hire is Rex Ryan and he's not even in the running.

Ive been scouring the net looking for details on what kind of money Phillips currently makes. He signed an extension of hsi original 2 year deal in 05 after only one season so i suspect they gave him good money at that time.

Heck if Zimmer is making a million dollars this guy had better have been making at least that much.

What do you guys think is fair $2.5 mill a year or thereabouts?

I'm hoping we find someone better.

I won't be happy just because we picked the best of a bad bunch.

Fits Jones' profile and my guess is that it is very accurate.

I told ya'll last week they were going to have to throw in that meal plan at Luby's in addition to the 35k a year salary!

What a ridiculous notion.

You do the best you can, when you have to. We couldn't have made a better choice. The only thing we could have done is entrust the team to a complete unknown - which could be really great or a total failure. What you've done is set an impossible standard, and then declared all other options unacceptable. That makes no sense.

I have to agree here. whining about things when the best possible outcome was achieved is just trolling.

That's simply absurd.

There was NO ONE out there better than Wade Phillips?

Absolutely not true.

Who was a better choice?

Did you want Cowher? Were you willing to give up the compensation necessary? Same for Fisher? Did you want some unknown coordinator? Why would they be better than Wade?

In Wade we got a guy who has been a winner as a HC, has aggressive D's everywhere he goes, a strong running game, and is versed in the 3-4. These are all things we needed. There was no better fit in any candidate.

Is this reporting from the same guys who said Norv was a shoe in?

I hate these articles... do me a favor and keep filtering them into the "Daily Zone."

Thanks.

We got a guy who is 0-3 in playoff appearances, strongly suggesting that he can't get the team over the hump. That's the very thing everyone critisized Parcells for.

It defies the law of averages to say there isn't someone out there who can do better than that. I'm not going to name names so you can simply run down anybody I suggest.

Suffice to say, there are highly regarded, up-and-coming qualifed candidates out there. Sometimes you have to dig a little deeper. We didn't dig very deep here and as a result, we're hired someone who has an 0-3 career playoff record.

Maybe some people like that, but I don't.

The notion that past results are indicative of future results is nonsense. Cowher hadn't won a super bowl in 15 years. Holmgren couldn't get Seattle over that hump and win a playoff game. These incidents from the past don't prevent the opposite from happening in the future. Such a narrow outlook is extremely shallow. Wade has shown he's a good coach. You can narrow your criteria to playoff wins, but that makes no sense.

So, we're just contrarian for the sake of being contrarian, then?

That's because some people can look past a zero-sum argument, and see the whole picture. Some people are aware that a man's past does not control his future.

Some people aren't.

Man Jerry must have been really lowballing Phillips it too a whole hour to agree to a contract after this so called "article"

Like I said... filter the media BS else where :)

8 minutes after I posted that the deal was done.

Nice low ball.

To be fair to the rag, they reported it however many minutes ago, and it was reposted here after that - the lowball offer could have gone down a while ago, before anyone sniffed it - if it happened, of course.
