CADILLAC DONE?
Posted by Mike Florio on January 22, 2008, 10:09 p.m.

One of the rumors making the rounds in Mobile is that the career of Buccaneers running back Cadillac Williams could be over.

Williams blew out a patellar tendon on September 30, during a game against the Panthers.

If Williams can’t return, it’s another argument against using a high first-round pick on a running back. The financial investment is enormous, and the running back is always one play away from a serious, if not permanent, injury.

The same could be said for any position in the NFL.

It's always a stupid idea to let rare events sway your overall philosophy.

Cadillac had a run of about 9-10 games and his career was over then. It really didn't take this knee injury to come to that conclusion. Earnest Graham is getting the job done in TB anyways.

Great, another team drafting ahead of us that will take a RB! Maybe they'll be interested in Julius.

Yeah it is. And the price of a player at whatever position is determined more by the # they are picked at.

Basically, you shouldn't ever pick in the 1st round. Everyone is one play away from injury and it costs too much,

He sure did. I had a chance to get him in my fantasy league and didn't. What a mistake.

I don't care if his play dropped off or he might have been replaced. It is sad that a player who is young and in their prime has their career ended by an injury. Very sad!

Eric (Albany): Can you comment on the rumors of Cadillac Williams's career being over due to the injury suffered this past season?

Chris Mortensen: (11:15 AM ET ) I haven't heard of any such rumors. I know that he had a serious injury and the Bucs are happy they have Earnest Graham.

Cuz a Tackle, Guard, Center, WR, TE, QB, DE, DT, LB, Safety, or CB can't suffer the EXACT same injury, right?

Florio is a moron.

Correct but I think there is some truth to RB having the shortest average shelf life. Of course now you can't sign any rookie to more than 4 years right?

Yup and RB bust less than all of those except linemen and TE. WR, CB, QB are all much more risky picks.

Top 15 RBs have busted pretty frequently over the last 15 years.
