Lance will be more prepared to challenge the more physically limited Cooper Rush in '2024 when Lance has had
a full offseason prep and camp time. To learn the offense, rapport coaches and teammates.

If we were gonna draft a quality regarded backup QB next year, it would've been in a range of the mid round pick (4th)
In Lance, we've already got a guy that is already in the NFL, and a highly rated QB prospect coming into the NFL.
The physical ability and tools that Rush simply does not have, will be an advantage with backup Lance.

Now it's about developmental success and game experience.

This is thing about Lance. Right now he is nowhere close to Dak as a quarterback or even Cooper Rush but in two years would you rather have Lance on a team friendly deal or a 32 year old Dak making 50 million with a 200 million guarantee. Believe the Joneses are looking at this when you gotta pay CeeDee and Parsons top of the market value.

I like the timeline but there is no such thing as a team friendly deal on a Good NFL QB... you guys need to get this, if Trey Lance show the goods and starts for the Cowboys in 2025-2026 HE WILL BE GETTING PAID probably more than Dak by that time...

No Lance has no leverage. Dak has the 8 years of being the leader of the Dallas Cowboys and a top 10 quarterback ranking. Lance at best will get a few starts in the next two seasons. Unless he becomes Pat Mahomes he will have no leverage. Lance history is he is a failure with Shanahan. If the Cowboys offered him a Jordan Love two year extension after the season I bet he signs it.

And even next year, Lance will still be a young guy....

Its possible, but no likely. Unless there are injuries and Lance gets a good bit of PT. He needs lost of love action against NFL defenses.

The minute he is named the starter his agent will be calling Jones for the restructure..period.. GM's dont get to play hardball with starting QB's worth the position..it is what it is..

IMHO Lance makes the 53. You don’t give up a 4th round pick now and cut the guy hoping he doesn’t get claimed. That would be an idiotic move.

I think Dak and Lance make the 53 and Rush and Grier get cut. I don’t think that Rush has to clear waivers and he reverts back to the practice squad as QB2, initially.

Eventually.

Jerry don't trade picks for QB3.

Lance was brought here for pressure.
Jerry traded picks for Drew Henson at one time. Lance represents no pressure because he can't play. If I were Dak I'd just say, "this is it, huh? Well, good luck. Someone will pay me what I want and you can start this kid".

They didn’t give up a 4th round pick for Lance to be the 3rd or 4th QB.

Dak would probably say that now and I am sure Dak doesn’t look at the kid as direct competition currently. But Lance is a lottery ticket that the Jones boys would love to cash in.

If Dak has 10 plus picks by the midway point of the season, watch Dak start to get snarky and sweat.

Did Drew Henson eventually get a chance to start?
