Here's the question. How is the Boston Globe and ESPN able to get ahold of the person(s) and the NFL is not?

YAKUZA
The same way any media outlet is able to get info. They pay for it.

The NFL represents a prosecutorial entity, meaning you get nothing out of going to them. Go to the media, get a payday, and then talk to the "prosecution."

wait till it comes out that Tom Brady is actually a robot. Part man, Part Robot. He is the result of many ultra liberal doctors in Boston and was created many years ago by Belichick and pioli.

He has infared eyes and can see 30 seconds into the future.

They are really going to flip when that comes out.

This is what I deem "dismissal via exaggeration".

It's a logical fallacy.

I thought YR's point was that the NFL didn't look very hard. ;)
And it was a good point, but we don't know how much effort they put into it one way or the other. We can continue to speculate tho. ;)

My point is even if they had been working to get this guy to talk, he probably wasn't as willing until he got some kind of payday, which ESPN, Boston Globe, and Boston Herald is more than willing to pay.

COMMISH MEETING WITH WALSH SOON?

Posted by Mike Florio on February 3, 2008, 11:49 a.m.

On Super Bowl morning, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said on ESPN Radio that the league will “absolutely” investigate the “Spygate II” allegations, and that Goodell will “absolutely” meet with former Pats video employee Matt Walsh.

As Chris Mortensen of ESPN points out, Goodell will be heading to Hawaii soon for the Pro Bowl. And Walsh lives in Hawaii.

The media covering the Pro Bowl also will be on its way to Hawaii as well, and we have a feeling that Walsh will be feeling a little bit like Britney Spears over the next few days.

IF WALSH HAS VIDEO, BELICHICK DONE FOR A YEAR

Posted by Mike Florio on February 3, 2008, 1:09 p.m.

ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio reports that, if it turns out that former Patriots employee Matt Walsh has in possession video of the Rams’ final walk-through practice from Super Bowl XXXVI, New England head coach Bill Belichick will be suspended.

For a year.

Wow.

If Walsh has a such a tape, and if Belichick knows or suspects that he does, it could have a profound affect on Belichick as he prepares for the final act in a possible 19-0 season. We’re not saying that it’ll affect his coaching in any way; it might actually make him more focused and determined. But the knowledge that this game could be his last one for 19 months, and possibly his final time on the sidelines with the Patriots ever, is likely something that not even the modern-day Bud Grant would be able to conceal.

Indeed, if Belichick knows that he’s toast, he might opt to retire before “Spygate II” hits the fan. And he’ll be carrying those thoughts somewhere in his brain throughout the day and night in Phoenix.

And given that the Patriots have issued a statement calling Saturday’s report from the Boston Herald “absolutely false,” evidence to the contrary might compel owner Bob Kraft to fire his head coach on the heels of a fourth Super Bowl win in seven seasons.

Though plenty of folks are questioning the timing of these new disclosures, the fact is that if there’s any truth to the report and that truth comes out, the guy who’ll pay the biggest price is Belichick.

Either way, this is something that needs to be investigated quickly, so that if there’s nothing to it the Pats and Belichick can have the cloud of suspicion removed.
a little too late

So what happens if the tape isn't there? They just call Walsh a liar and move on? It's the whole "If the Patriots make it to the playoffs, they lose a #1, if not, they will lose lower picks." all over again. Why is this idiot giving them a way out or every infraction?

When it comes to players, he's got no problem clubbing them over the head for a year or however many games, but when it comes to guys he has dinner with, he's not so eager to punish?

I for one was completely satisfied with the NFL's investigation.

Rog: Hey Billy, go ahead and send me all of those tapes you guys made.
Billy: All of them?
Rog: Yes all of them. I just want full disclosure.
Billy: Oh yeah, no problem. We only have tapes from 2006 and this last game. Hey Rog, what are you gonna do with this stuff? You know it could be pretty damaging.
Rog: Don't worry Billy, no one will ever see it. We don't want anyone to be able to use these tapes in the future. Just give me what you got. Can I trust you to do that?
Billy: Oh yeah Rog. You'll get all of it.
Rog: Good, I'll just mark this case closed.

You forgot "I promise I'll hand over all the tapes... Just give me four or five days to make copies of them first." ;)

If it's true and he gets suspended for a year and that leads to him simply retiring then I'm fine with that. Either way he's not in the league and he's not continuing to cheat.

Of course if they find out this is true I'm certain you're going to start hearing about how other teams do these exact same things, and have for years, they've just not been turned in yet or had the whistle blown on them yet.

For anyone to believe that Belicheat is the only coach in the league who does, or ever has done, these kind of things is to be as niave as possible.

john lynch just said that during the pro bowl, belicheat was sending
assistant coaches over to watch the NFC....for the stinking Pro Bowl !!!

disclaimer: this is by no means an indictment of the Patriots undefeated
season.

"We were aware of the rumor months ago and looked into it. There was no evidence of it on the tapes or in the notes produced by the Patriots, and the Patriots told us it was not true," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told The Associated Press.

Looks to me like the NFL has already made up it's mind, and all they really needed was for the Patriots to deny it. Well isn't that convinent. You mean they didn't document their cheating, admit to their cheating, or submit evidence to their cheating? Well then they must be innocent. Open and shut case, Johnson!

Haha, that's great.

I hope Walsh has enough to bring this franchise down. There's no doubt in my mind that they cheated for longer than 1 season so it's just a matter of proving it.

Witten cheated out of winner's share?
Cowboys tight end Jason Witten learned something from Broncos safety John Lynch in a Fox pregame segment.

In a discussion of the Patriots' Spygate scandal, Lynch said at last year's Pro Bowl that Patriots coach Bill Belichick had assistant coaches watch the NFC practice. "We were getting the plays. [I asked] how do you know that?"

Witten was asked if he knew that was going on. "No," he said to much laughter, "it cost me 40 grand."

Witten is one of the finalists for the NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. The winner will be announced right before Super Bowl kickoff, Fox says.

For what it's worth, Ron Jaworski said this morning that he has no problem with any of this, saying it's just part of the game and that when he was with the Rams, they studied the opposing defensive coordinator and stole signals.

To me, though, filming is a different deal. And before the Super Bowl?

If that's true, I hope this all blows up in Richard M. Belichick's smug face.

What's apparent now, though, is Goodell's initial "investigation" was the stuff of Barney Fife. Did he not think to interview the team's former film personnel?

Ron Jaworski doesn't have a problem with a team winning multiple Superbowls by 3 points or less after they have gone above and beyond the rules of the game.

What would he have a problem with then? If that isn't the definition of cheating then there isn't a definition.

JAWS IS "OKAY WITH IT"

In an admission that left us as apoplectic (thanks, Tiki) as Jerry Seinfeld when he found out that, as to a certain indecent proposal he made to a girlfriend, "she's into it," ESPN's Ron Jaworski has no qualms with an NFL team sneaking into an opponents' practice and videotaping the plays.

"I'm okay with it," Jaworski said during the network's three-hour pre-game extravaganza.

WHAT?!?!?!?!

Jaws' justification? "It's going on."

Okay, Jaws. Murder is "going on," too. Should it be legalized? Plenty of bad things are "going on." Does that make them okay?

Sure, those examples are extreme. But they are the logical application of Jaworski's shrug-of-the-shoulder approach to practices that are, and should be, forbidden.

Look, Jaws is great with the X's and O's and, even though his speaking style is at times annoying and repetitive, he does a nice job on Monday Night Football. But these beliefs suggest to us that the man has at some point lost his soul.

How can he be "okay with it"? It's cheating and it's wrong. The notion that it's okay because everyone does it is a horrible example to set for our kids, and it's a very weak way to defend the indefensible.

Steve Young just looked at Jaworski like he was crazy.

Mike Ditka talked about George Allen filming Cowboys practices.

Just because it's been going on doesn't make it right.

Allen was a pathetic cheater, and so is Belichick.

If Jaworski doesn't see the problem with it, then he's a POS, too.
