"IF" Walsh has video evidence, he would be smart to make some extra copies or release it in advance to a 3rd party. It's clear that the NFL has no interest in anything getting out which could challenge the integrity of the game.

Again, I think it's a big "IF" that he still has any physical evidence. His testimony will carry little weight...

Why do I get the feeling that if this guy has any more tapes they are going to suddenly dissappear?

This whole "investigation" is a sham. Goddell burned all the evidence and I highly doubt this guy has a smoking gun tape in his VCR right now. I am sure the Pats "visted with the guy" and they came to a mutual understanding, if you get what I am saying.

Haha, that's great.

I hope Walsh has enough to bring this franchise down. There's no doubt in my mind that they cheated for longer than 1 season so it's just a matter of proving it.

I thought it was already widely known that the Pats were illegally videotaping back to 2001.

Goodell is simply wilting to political pressure, and there's no greater pressure than a U.S. congressman announcing an inquiry during Super Bowl week.

But Goodell said even as far back as September that if additional revelations surface, he can re-open this case. And I would assume Walsh's tapes would factor into his (Goodell's) decision, especially since he ordered the tapes destroyed.

This just gives Goodell an avenue to answer the political pressure and, possibly, exact some more punishment from Belichick.

It's obvious now that Goodell never really investigated the matter fully. It didn't take long for ESPN to find Walsh and *if* the Boston Globe has a different source than Walsh and it's legit, then it makes the NFL's "investigation" look worse. So it's easy to say that they would re-open the case when they were never interested in looking into the ordeal to begin with.

I thought all the tapes were supposed to be destroyed?

why did Walsh keep the tapes?

I don't get how having the Ram's tapes is a suspendable offense, but having the Jet's tapes somehow is not, this is really wierd

You mean all this time and the Boston Globe, a newspaper that should know the Pats organization backward and forward, and ESPN, which has tremendous resources, didn't know Walsh existed before Super Bowl weekend?

Look, my initial position was/is that the NFL knew the Pats were cheating as far back as 2001. That much wasn't secret knowledge. But it could only act on the Jets issue because that was the more immediate issue. That's why Goodell ordered the tapes destroyed.

I don't think an issue was made of taping before then because how can you penalize the Pats for something that happened in the past, particularly when you can't prove that the cheating equaled winning, especially when winning a game has too many variables beyond knowing a team's signals.

I don't think the NFL will void any of the Pats previously victories. At worst, I think Belichick gets suspended, and that only because of the political pressure surrounding this.

However, my prediction is also if the Pats lose, I think this will die down much sooner, and it may just die down in the off-season even if they win.

I think the issue is whether Belichick knew Walsh had the tapes. If so, then he defied Goodell's orders to have all the tapes destroyed.

At least that's how I understand it.

COMMISH MEETING WITH WALSH SOON?

Posted by Mike Florio on February 3, 2008, 11:49 a.m.

On Super Bowl morning, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said on ESPN Radio that the league will “absolutely” investigate the “Spygate II” allegations, and that Goodell will “absolutely” meet with former Pats video employee Matt Walsh.

As Chris Mortensen of ESPN points out, Goodell will be heading to Hawaii soon for the Pro Bowl. And Walsh lives in Hawaii.

The media covering the Pro Bowl also will be on its way to Hawaii as well, and we have a feeling that Walsh will be feeling a little bit like Britney Spears over the next few days.

IF WALSH HAS VIDEO, BELICHICK DONE FOR A YEAR

Posted by Mike Florio on February 3, 2008, 1:09 p.m.

ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio reports that, if it turns out that former Patriots employee Matt Walsh has in possession video of the Rams’ final walk-through practice from Super Bowl XXXVI, New England head coach Bill Belichick will be suspended.

For a year.

Wow.

If Walsh has a such a tape, and if Belichick knows or suspects that he does, it could have a profound affect on Belichick as he prepares for the final act in a possible 19-0 season. We’re not saying that it’ll affect his coaching in any way; it might actually make him more focused and determined. But the knowledge that this game could be his last one for 19 months, and possibly his final time on the sidelines with the Patriots ever, is likely something that not even the modern-day Bud Grant would be able to conceal.

Indeed, if Belichick knows that he’s toast, he might opt to retire before “Spygate II” hits the fan. And he’ll be carrying those thoughts somewhere in his brain throughout the day and night in Phoenix.

And given that the Patriots have issued a statement calling Saturday’s report from the Boston Herald “absolutely false,” evidence to the contrary might compel owner Bob Kraft to fire his head coach on the heels of a fourth Super Bowl win in seven seasons.

Though plenty of folks are questioning the timing of these new disclosures, the fact is that if there’s any truth to the report and that truth comes out, the guy who’ll pay the biggest price is Belichick.

Either way, this is something that needs to be investigated quickly, so that if there’s nothing to it the Pats and Belichick can have the cloud of suspicion removed.

The rams tape if it exist, was a practice walkthrough before the Super Bowl. Where the media is the only ones allowed. Spying on a practice has always been against the rules, it being the Super Bowl makes it even worse imo, especially when a walkthrough involves running plays for that particular game sometimes the first 10-20 scripted. If its true, I think a one year suspension would be too light for Bellichick. That should be a permament ban from the nfl, no HOF, no association with the team or nfl ever again.

This, for the umpteen-hundredth time, confirms Goodell is a 'tard. Oh, you're just now meeting with someone that possibly has more evidence? How convenient. If Belichick ends up being suspended for a year, or something else does turn up and he retires, Goodell should be removed immediately.

I bet he has already seen this tape and this is exactly why he destoryed the last batch. He knew that a tape of a pre-Super Bowl practice would be devastating and be forced to take some type of action against the Patriots* and the Super Bowls they've already won. Now all the sudden, the tape surfaces publically, it will look really bad on his part.

I bet, he will just punish the Patriots* again, but try and slip by actually doing something involving the Super Bowls the Pats* already won.

Hopefully, the media, players, coaches, and fans can apply enough pressure (if in fact he can produce the tape and ensure a copy gets to the media) to force him to take the Super Bowls away from the Pats*. Especially since the Rams/Pats* Super Bowl was the first of the Pats*

Strip them of their other number 1 and remove some salary cap room. Suspend him for 4 games but not an entire year. Otherwise he simply retires and doesn't even get a slap on the wrist.

I think all of the above are a good idea, but I think the suspension should be more than the 5 games our position coach got. The Patriots organization and Belechic should BOTH get hammered if this allegation turns out to be true.

Goodell said it's his right to re-visit the issue

so him stripping the Pats of their other 1st is not that wishful thinking

The NFL should kick out the Patriots from the NFL if the Chokers are Cheaters again. Revoke their SB wins. Eliminate their draft rights indefinately Plan B.

That sucks as now Eagles will have a Trophy. The Patriots are RUINING the NFL. Just because that this SB was most viewed. Damn the $, stand up Goodel and banish BB and the choke/cheaters.

That's funny. Personally, I always get that "Cellophane" song from Chicago stuck in my head whenever I read a Nors post. Only it's much harder to ignore Nors than that character.
