Wade Phillips doesn't have a contract extension like the one Norv Turner received. Yet.

The Cowboys did officially pick up the 2010 option in Phillips' contract Tuesday, according to NFL Network's Jason La Canfora. More meetings with Phillips are planned for Tuesday, and we'd imagine that Phillips' contract status will be among the topics.

Owner Jerry Jones will meet with the media Tuesday, but he only wants to talk about his upcoming boxing match. The Cowboys sent out a statement Tuesday that Jones won't entertain any football questions, which is out of the ordinary for such occasions.

The Cowboys plan to have a press conference by the end of the week, when we'd imagine Phillips' contractual status will be officially be announced.

The Cowboys general manager's first news conference at the conclusion of the season is to promote a boxing match.

Only in Dallas.

Not sure what to make of it.

Think there might be something brewing?

"I never got into the NFL or bought the Cowboys for the money. I was lucky enough to already have some," he said. "This is about having a fighter like Manny and an event like this in our venue. When we finished the deal, I was shaking as much as I was when we beat the Eagles. I'm just as excited."

I doubt it.

Phillips has to prepare to coach the Pro Bowl in a week's time.

The Cowboys sent out a statement informing media that Jerry Jones would not discuss the Cowboys or NFL at today's press conference.

The press conference is to hype Manny Pacquaio vs. Joshua Clottey, the first boxing match at JerryWorld.

Typically at stadium-related press conference, Jones is happy to entertain questions about the Cowboys after the event ends. This is a clear signal that he is not prepared to publicly discuss Wade Phillips' contract status.

It isn't clear exactly why Jerry wants to avoid Wade talk. It's already been reported that Jerry has opted to keep his head coach, so one would think that Jerry would at least state for the record that his head coach would return next season. Maybe he prefers to say nothing until a contract extension is worked out, but all of Jerry's public comments thus far have pointed toward picking up the 2010 option in Phillips' contract.

The Cowboys will schedule a press conference before week's end, when one assumes the issue of Phillips' contract will be put to rest -- for this offseason, at least.

I'm not sure what is wrong with that scenario. I think if he talks Cowboys it takes away from the importance of the boxing event and means the reporters aren't there to cover that, but rather to get a sound bite about the Cowboys. It cheapens the other event. Either that or I am just missing the point of the rant.

Good to know JJ made a quick decision. keep the continunity.

I think a lot of people are only assuming this is Jerry Jones.

Wade Phillips could also feel he's worth a multi-year extension and there might be a true and honest negotiation round upcoming. That could be the hang up as well. The man has to have some pride at some point.

The boxing event is in March, the 13th I believe. I honestly think he is going about this backwards. Get some closure to the season and then he has roughly six weeks to periodically bark about his boxing match.

This is why we need a dedicated general manager. The Combine and Senior Bowl is coming up and meanwhile our general manager will be worried about a boxing match.

Maybe this is a great thing, though. Jerry will have to listen to the scouts and coaches and won't have an opinion of his own. ;)

I'll wager that he is far more focused on the Senior Bowl and the Combines than any of us.

I swear, we worry about the craziest things.

I'm still stunned about how much uncessary attention this story is getting. The man hasn't gotten us to the promise land, but he's done more in his 3 years than parcells did in 4 and that's a fact!!

Seriously.........

Fans couldn't even begin to imagine how much work is going on internally right now.

Just because they don't see it the get all stressed out like it isn't taking place.

I'm fairly certain Ciskowsi, the entire scouting and coaching staffs aren't doing anything to prepare for the fight.

I'm pretty sure building the new stadium was a bigger distraction and had more moving parts than promoting a fight.

Who cares if he is more focused than any of us, that is irrelevant. The question is, is he as focused as the 31 other GMs and I don't see how you can argue that he is.
