Dak Prescott has Jerry Jones in contract checkmate — and Jerry knows it

https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profo...ones-in-contract-checkmate-and-jerry-knows-it

There’s a beautiful irony to the situation in which Cowboys owner and G.M. Jerry Jones finds himself, when it comes to quarterback Dak Prescott’s contract.

Prescott currently has PRECISELY the kind of leverage that Jerry would relish and maximize if he were in Dak’s shoes.

The problem traces to the Cowboys failing and refusing to reward the 2016 fourth-round draft pick after he became eligible for a second contract, following his third season. They retained him in 2019 at a bargain-basement price, before using the franchise tag in 2020.

You didn't get the bulletin board message? He switched to checkers right now. How's Dak's checker game?

Absolutely false.

How does this myth just keep going and going and going.

After the Borrow's contract we are in deep doo doo.
Dak is going to want at least 50m a year.
We got Parson's and Lamb's contracts coming up.
Better hope Cap boy brings his A game.
That now is only a timed solution right now. Both targets will fall. (Parsons and Lamb)

I would roll the dice with Dak. Let the season play out. If he balls out and leads us to a SB win, then he deserves whatever the market is. If he has another sub-par playoff game and he's the main reason we lost, then let him test the open market like Zeke did. I love my team, and that includes Dak, but this is my final season giving him my full support. Again, if he's the main reason we don't make any noise this season, then vámonos! I'll be the one who opens the door to let him walk.

If Dak does not pick up his game this year then please let him go. Bring up Lance and give someone who is younger and cheaper the shot.

Meaning what? That both will not get what they are asking for, or they won't be a Cowboy?
Move on, no body is that naive or unobservant. Just figure it out instead of being a bore.

Straight up, Dallas or the Giants win? Now add something to talk about for real!

'Knock 'er down again, Pa....knock 'er down again!
Make 'er tell us why, Pa...she was out late last night.'

Wait, wait, wait...let me dumb it down enough: Think Jerry is able to make it out of the latrine before game time?

Jerry has his Ace in the Hole - Trey Lance. No seriously, until the Lance trade Jerry was really stuck with Dak. But if Lance can develop into a decent QB at least Jerry can let him walk after his contract is up. Of course this is a long shot, but it is still an outside chance.

Jerry lost leverage when he allowed Dak to fleece him on his last deal. The no trade, no franchise tag clauses tied Jerry to the fence post with his little Bic pen hanging out and ready to sign the next deal. As soon as Jerry signed that deal he should have known he would be in this position today. His next move should have been to start drafting QBs hoping to find a Dak replacement no matter how low the probability was.

I don’t pay much attention to the contract talk news but seem to recall Dak is not on their list of immediate re-sign needs, just CeeDee. And Bosa may have just made it so you have to pick one, #4 or #11. So they may already be planning it that way? But I like your thought process on it. Even if they do view it that way they will never say it publicly and throw Dak under the bus.
