first of all why do we do this the contract's already done we heard from the whining toddlers in here about the contract they didn't like it but this is the first year technically for the new deal you don't cut a player you don't call it inept you know what's in that giving up a bunch of draft picks bringing over a quarterback that's not yours and then handing them new deals that were very similar and then cutting them and eating the money.

I'd say the GM's who went out and gave up a lot of draft capital and then gave up big money for quarterbacks that were not even better then prescott were much more inept this happens...

This is not the same as Russell Wilson ,Russell Wilson at least played two seasons before they decide to cut him ,and eat that cap money,

they got some use out of him, you don't sign a guy to a new deal and in the first year of the new deal cut him, it makes no sense!!

There are far worse inept deals made around the league than this one they paid their own player because they didn't have another option and they gave him market money.. it happens you either have a top ten quarterback or you don't and I don't want to hear about last year he got hurt there was no run game the line looked like crap the defense look like trash it happens nothing went well last year with all the injuries that doesn't make this deal a bad one....

I believe I saw a meme somewhere that had the top 10 quarterbacks making the most money in the NFL and 8 of them missed the playoffs last year.

we just talked about last year it's the first year of his new deal everyone's crying again this gets out of control he got paid it's too late let's move on let's let him play at least a couple of seasons on his new deal before we talk about how bad a deal it was...

First of all, it was close to that yes but they didn't sign him and then cut him before he played the snap under his new deal they went out and over paid him for draft picks wouldn't that be something if the Cowboys went out and gave up that kind of draft capital and then blindly handed the guy huge contract and then move on and eat that money and those draft picks I mean that was truly dumb the Cowboys simply paid their quarterback they drafted homegrown guy no extra draft picks given up and he hasn't played a snap under his new deal Russell Wilson played two years under his new deal before they cut him,

so, it would be the dumbest thing in the world for anybody to suggest the cowboys should cut him before he plays a single snap under his new deal just because they front loaded the deal and it seems too high...

The Cleveland Browns did the same thing went and used a lot of draft picks to bring over deshaun Watson, who's been a complete bust over there ,and yet they haven't cut him..

they traded for a guy with red flags on him, that look like he could end up being suspended and he was contract was almost the exact as Prescott and that was three years ago, that was truly dumb..

I mean you talk about inept they blindly handed a man that was gonna be suspended a huge deal along with draft picks and the guy has not done one thing with the Browns... And yet the Browns have every reason to cut the guy everyone's complaining here that Jerry was worried about not having an answer at quarterback and paid a guy top market money... yes he reset the market but he didn't give up draft picks and the guy just came off an MVP type year second MVP voting second team all pro led the league in scoring, should have been MVP.

so, he got money and now everyone's complaining again before he plays a single snap under his new deal we have to revisit the department again over the same subject..​

This happens with quarterbacks more than anything else in the NFL you know it I know it..​

I mean why would the San Francisco 49ers give up three first round draft picks to pick Trey Lance the people around here thinks it's a joke Jerry gave a fourth for him, that's insane not what Jerry did with San Francisco did.. that's how desperate the league is for quarterbacks that is how hard it is you don't always hit on your quarterback unless you're picking top 2 and have a shot at a quarterback and even then there's no guarantee how many #1 and #2 quarterbacks in the draft have been busts? how many first round draft picks have been total busts at qb? they have been Jags,​

so Jerry paid a guy that just came off one of his best years and didn't anticipate him getting hurt , how many other injuries we had, or anticipate how bad the offensive line, the run game and all the defense and everything else in that coaching staff..​

and YET, everyone goes back to the quarterback, once again and revisits the same subject as we had after Prescott got paid last year it's the same responses now all of a sudden, we should think about cutting him?​

Half kidding of course but the comment has nothing to do with Dak asking for that ridiculous salary. Every player tries to get as much as they can. Even the ones like Dak who say it isn't about the money, because as we all know it's always about the money. I'll break it down for you. This is based on the premise that the team does not restructure Dak as the poster I replied to brought up as a talking point. Note: No one is saying he won't be restructured just so that is clear, it's just the scenario that was brought up. So...Would the team not restructuring Dak, which would obviously would mean they are regretting that contract and looking to get out of it or they wouldn't carry a $90M cap hit, be more of an indictment on:
Jerry for giving him that asinine contract in the first place
Dak for his level of play and or injury issues that have caused the team to already regret the contract less than 6 months into it

Jerry made this contract. He and only him, is the one to blame. There is no exit strategies on this contract. It is damn near 100% guaranteed and without a trade clause. People can be mad at Dak all they want, but this a classic GM Jethro mistake.
 
This team is going nowhere with Dak Prescott at the helm. I'd be rebuilding for whoever is coming after Dak.

So you’re good with the contract they gave Dak. Out of curiosity, what would have to happen now that would make you feel it may not have been a prudent deal?
 
You eat the giant cap hit in a year where you are tearing things down to rebuild. You push the money ahead in a year where you are trying to win. Do neither and you sit in limbo forever.

They don’t have a team capable of competeing for a Super Bowl this year. Hell they will more than likely finish 3rd in their one division. Eat the money this year with Dak so they can move on sooner rather than later. This team should be in rebuild mode now. Stop making moves that keep you 500. Rip the band aid off.

We could probably trade him. Someone would take a chance on him for 45 million per year. We eat the rest in one year. Accelerate the rebuild.

That window is closing fast and this front office is sitting on their hands with no direction. Just trying to keep them some what relevant instead of picking a direction and making moves to support that direction.

I wouldn't expect him to be going anywhere over the next year or two based on how the contract is structured with new guarantees kicking in a year in advance which forces the Cowboys to make an early decision they may not be ready to make. However, there are void"dummy" years until 2032 to spread out restructures. I fully expect the Cowboys to restructure 40 million this year which will spread over the next 7 years. The Cowboys will have dead money for a while on this deal but atleast this is the highest cap hit year of the contract.

I think they made their decision six months ago. I expect we are tied to Dak for at least 3 more years, barring injury.

This is literally the whole point....It doesn't make sense to pay QBs top dollar given the inflated contracts. Goff isnt an elite QB, he has a great supporting cast. Jalen Hurts isnt a great QB, he has a great supporting cast. Teams are having more success building their roster then adding a serviceable QB. Non team friendly QB deals are closing the windows for more teams than they are keeping them open.

Dak might be greedy. He might have demanded to be the highest paid player in the league. I don't know. But I do know Jerry gave him the money. Jerry did agree to make Dak the highest paid QB and the highest paid player in the league. He did not have to. This is Jerry's fault. I expect players to demand a lot of money. Why not? They want what is best for them and their families. But I do expect the GM to show some restraint.

Now, because he overpaid Dak with his last deal, he is sitting on a $90 million CAP hit in 2025. Because Jerry learns nothing from his mistakes, he will restructure Dak at some point, probably after free agency is over, and he will move that $90 CAP hit to the end of Daks contract so at age 35, Dak will cost Dallas $90 million in dead money to waive or trade.

I know it will cause some pain this year, but Jerry has to leave Dak's deal alone and take the $90 million CAP hit in 2025. Then Dak's CAP number drops to $67 million next year. The Cowboys can restructure CeeDee and extend Micah Parsons this year and get about $30 million in CAP saves. There are a few other things they can do as well without severely mortgaging the future.
 
Dak, the worse thing that has ever happened in the History of the Dallas Cowboys right after Jerry bought the team.
