The first overall pick should be selected within 30 seconds of the draft starting. They've had over 3 months to plan for the pick for crying out loud.

Why wait that long?

Goodell: Welcome to the draft Dallas is on the clock with the first pick acquired in a trade with Cleveland. Dallas selects RB Ark Darren McFadden. :laugh2:

I'm good with that, although in this instance I want the Cowboys to drag it out the full 10 munites so we can see highlight after highlight of McFadden before and after our pick.

I think teams that have a lot of draft day personnel and resources, like the Cowboys, Patriots, Commanders, will probably benefit from the rule a little bit.

The Commanders have a scouting department? Who knew?

Seriously, the reason the teams take so long with the first 5 selections or so is because the NFL asks them to. Both ESPN and NFLN have their own video packages for each player drafted, and they want them aired. I'm 100% positive that the NFL tells teams not to select players until at least the 2:00 mark on the clock.

Great decision by the owners here

I guess i'm going to have to disagree with all of you on this one.....who the hell complains about a bunch of guys sitting around a big screen TV for 7-9 hours on a Saturday and Sunday....maybe their wives??? So Goodell is catering to the wives I guess.....and is it really a good "business decision" to give teams only 10 minutes, instead of a whopping 15, to decide who they are going to pay millions of dollars to????? That makes no sense regardless of what business you are in.....
