I don't think it is "feminists" exerting pressure on the NFL to get serious about DV. You don't need to be a feminist to think the league has a domestic violence problem. I'd expect the number of consumers who think the NFL has a DV problem is probably quite high.
Well I think it's quite high and I was quite vocal about signing Hardy. My problem is where is the evidence? If a woman admits she's going to set a person up and there's evidence of that and pressuring people to lie for her than where is the justice? And who's going to protect players from people like her?

I think its the younger feminists they're worried about and those feminists' influence on their husbands and children. If your brand is tarnished in the eyes of your customers (existing and especially prospective), your future earnings will probably suffer.

Maybe so for every normal business. but in sports, and when you have a monopoly, it will not effect it.
They are a dictatorship entity of a business, with prejudice. and no one can prove otherwise.

Is there a link to that?

https://www.nytimes.com/2016/02/05/...lenty-to-do-as-the-nfls-top-investigator.html

"This option largely comes down to a woman named Lisa Friel, whose league office is adorned with portraits of giants: the former Giants quarterback Phil Simms, the current Giants quarterback Eli Manning — and, most tellingly, Robert M. Morgenthau, the august former Manhattan district attorney."

"Friel is responsible for investigating alleged violations of the league’s personal conduct code: domestic violence, sexual assault, animal cruelty, blackmail, extortion, racketeering, disorderly conduct, you name it. She emphasizes that the adjudications or dismissals of court cases do not dictate the outcomes of her own inquiries, which some officials in the players’ union find at times to be overzealous."

"To begin with, she is a devout Giants fan, a season-ticket holder whose basement in her Brooklyn apartment is, as The Daily Beast once reported, a blue-and-red shrine to the Jints. Among her earliest memories of growing up in New Jersey is watching a Giants game on a black-and-white television and asking her father: “Who are we rooting for, Daddy? The ones in the black uniforms or the ones in the white uniforms?”"

It's complete bs, we all know it's complete bs, and it reeks of Mara and his cronies.

And yet they still continue to consume.

Its the ones who don't or won't continue to consume they're concerned about. The NFL is trying to reach out to women to increase its fan base and viewership. Why now, after all these years, are DV and breast cancer awareness a big deal?

If you really think they do things because "its the right thing to do", go talk to the retired players. You know, the ones who had to sue the NFL to get health benefits. How about the current and former players with CTE? The NFL has been downplaying this for years because of the financial implications.

Its about the money.

Someone mentioned endorsements in this thread.

I wonder, if the league persists, even with the authorities declining to pursue charges against Elliott, if Zeke can make a case against the league in a court of law, bringing suit against the league for interfering with his ability to earn?

Is a contract which stipulates you may not bring suit legal? Can the league prevent it's players from suing the league for damages?

If what is said about the event which allegedly took place between Zeke and his former girlfriend it in fact her manufacturing of a story to reap a settlement, then the league is clearly overstepping their influence, and are inhibiting his right to make money by impugning his character in the eyes of potential business partners.

Makes more sense now that Giants kicker got off with a slap on the wrist after serially abusing his wife. Giants and Mara were aware of the countless calls to police but did nothing.

imo, if he is suspended that will set a unique (and not necessarily good) precedence for further suspensions under the conduct detrimental blanket

What happens to Joe Mixon?
What will happen to future players that have criminal allegations before being drafted?

Underrated post here. What is the cut off time for misconduct? College? High School? Kicking your mom while inside her belly?

I don't understand why the league feels it needs to expand on what our judicial system handles already. Right now nothing should be done with Zeke because the evidence doesn't support discipline ... yet. If tomorrow that changes because of some compelling new evidence that may or may not come out in a civil trial ... you address it then.

Why they feel the need to go faster or be more vigilant than the legal system that is set up for this is beyond me. It's obvious they aren't capable or competent enough to pull it off, so why try?

This keeps getting missed in all of this - the investigation is about the allegations made in July, 2016, after he signed a contract with the Cowboys. The other allegations can be used to point to an overall pattern of behavior tied to the incident that allegedly happened when in the employ of the NFL.

Interesting, were did you hear that?

Even beyond her fandom, show me some who gets 300K or 400K for some kind of watchdog job and then says "Yeah, Whatevs" when something crosses their desk. They do this kind of nonsense to make sure they getting getting that fat paycheck.

If you read the transcripts of the NFL hearing with Greg Hardy, there is absolutely no way to read it and believe that Hardy's accuser had any credibility at all, but they still suspended him for an ADDITIONAL four games beyond the 15 before. Lisa Friel was a big part of that.

If I was JJ, my lawyers would be prepping some kind of damages from unfair competition against the league, and Lisa Friel would be the first subpoena on the list.
Jerry has been at this for around 30 years. He knows too much. He won't have to do this through the legal system.

It's so obvious that Lisa Friel's inconsistency within these "cases" has reeked of conflict of interest.

She's John Mara's mole within the NFLs disciplinary program, attempted to sweep the Josh Brown DV case under the carpet and has been doing everything within her power to pin something on Dallas' emerging superstar.

It's rotten to the core and since it was reported Jerry came at her and screamed at her in person back in November about the Zeke investigation I have faith he'll fight this thing to the end. It's time to expose Mara and his croonies within the league once and for all.

The maras and the Rooneys are as corrupt as they come, if you want to do some digging you'll find they've been involved with some downright evil **** dating back to their relationship with the Kennedys; gambling, racketeering, and the bootlegging market during the prohibition.

Doubt it. Unless they directly mess with his money, ala advertising and merchandising rights, he typically bends over and touches his toes for the league.

Ironically, more controversy surrounds Zeke BECAUSE of the NFL than the seemingly bogus accusations thrown his way.

They really are screwing up pretty badly by injecting themselves into these matters rather than just placing the burden on actual authorities to make these kinds of calls.

The first court filing I would file would have to do with her conflict of interest and the fact that she did not recuse herself once next year's schedule was announced and any discipline would benefit the team she is a huge fan of. I would seek an immediate injunction based on that fact alone if for no other reason to bring huge public spotlight on the fact that the league has someone who has an obvious bias investigating players and producing findings that happen to benefit her favorite team. Then I would go to work on the merits and lack of evidence.

In his comments during the March league meetings in Arizona, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made the case to his colleagues for getting out of the business of conducting internal investigations that supplement the work of the criminal justice system. And while Jones clearly has a vested interest in the current machinations of that specific mechanism, he made a valid point.

With Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott, who according to Clarence E. Hill, Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram previously was told he’d be cleared, now bracing for a suspension under the Personal Conduct Policy for alleged misconduct that resulted in neither an arrest nor charges, the league finds itself clumsily trying to balance conflicting business considerations while attempting to engage in what should be (but never can be) an objective, dispassionate assessment of the facts. On one hand, the league needs to placate Jones, who has more power than ever and who, we’re told, made it clear to the powers-that-be a year ago that he won’t be as gracious and compliant as Patriots owner Robert Kraft if a star player gets banned for something the boss thinks is bogus. On the other hand, the league needs to be cognizant of the potential P.R. consequences that would flow from a decision to give Elliott a pass — especially if his alleged victim files a lawsuit and eventually tells a compelling tale of domestic violence that the court of public opinion finds persuasive.

Surely, that’s one of the reasons why this case has taken so long to resolve. Whether the result of delicate negotiation or persistent consternation, the league office has been tiptoeing through a potential minefield, trying to find a path that will appease everyone involved and assuage the possibility of a Ray Rice/Josh Brown-style media firestorm.

Whatever the league does, it needs to do it now. The internal appeals process needs to be resolved before Week One, so that the potential suspension doesn’t hover one week at a time over the 2017 season. A cynic would say that influential Giants co-owner John Mara is pushing for immediate resolution, so that his team won’t have to face Elliott in Week One. Right or wrong, the league’s bungling of other investigations invites skepticism and cynicism when it comes to this one.

So what happens with Elliott? It’s possible that Friday’s report from Adam Schefter of ESPN was the product not of an exasperated Elliott camp accepting the inevitable but a deliberate leak from the league office aimed at gauging public opinion (along with the possible wrath of Jerry) before making a final decision. Whatever the motivation, a decision must come ASAFP if the league hopes for its internal investigation process to preserve any credibility whatsoever.
LL at least this was a good explanation of this. maybe he gets a warning and fine instead?

So it sounds as if they were going to clear him then he pulled that girl's top down and now they want to pop him for a game or two to teach him a lesson.
