BEST WISHES TO LEN
Posted by Mike Florio on February 4, 2008, 5:40 a.m.

We’ve been advised that ESPN.com’s Len Pasquarelli underwent quintuple heart bypass surgery on Saturday at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix. We wish him a quick and full recovery.

A source who was in the room tells us that Len was showing all of the symptoms of heart trouble during the Hall of Fame voting on Saturday — shortness of breath, pale, shivering.

“He was absolutely suffering through the voting, and he stayed in that room,” the source said. “I begged him to just fill out his ballots, leave, and get to a hospital. But he not only stayed, he wrote a story on the voting afterward. When he finally sought medical help, he was rushed into surgery.”

We’ve had our differences with Len, and a lot of it was in our early days, when we were looking to get noticed. But the guy is a grinder, and he truly has a passion for the NFL and the work that he does. His willingness to disregard how he was feeling in order to take of business is something we respect, and we hope he’ll be back on the job very soon.

We’re not saying we’re never going to disagree with him. But we definitely have a much different view of him.

We’ve also been told that Peter King of Sports Illustrated was hospitalized on Sunday with bronchitis, and was unable to attend the game.

Len is one of the best NFL writers out there, hope he gets better soon.

I've met Len Pasquarelli and he's a real nice guy, a good reporter and writer.

I pray he has a speedy recovery.

I hope the surgery is successful and Len Pasquarelli has a brisk recovery.

Being careful not to jump to conclusions, I really hope he makes the decision to undergo a "lifestyle" change.

Best wishes to Len and His family.

Hope he has a speedy recovery.

I am sure most of us here have had a family member, if not themselves, with heart problems so we can sympathize.

Wow, that's crazy he's back on the job already. Well I guess those procedures aren't as invasive as they once were, but I'd imagine he'd take a bit of break from a stressful show like PTI.

This was not very bright in my opinion. The heart is nothing to mess with.

A good man, a friend of mine dropped dead last weekend on a ski trip.

For someone to have "heart symptoms", and ignore them is beyond stupid in my opinion.

Having said that, hope he recovers quickly.

we lost my father-in-law two weeks ago to a heart attack while he was cross country skiing. He was only 57 years old and in seemingly impeccable shape. It turns out he had a congenital heart defect however. A main artery to his heart was constricted and wasn't pumping enough blood to his heart. Note to all you guys: the medical examiner told us that a few main factors bring on heart attacks: 1) stress: he had it; his small business was struggling

2) very cold weather: it was 4 degrees that day

3) large meal: not the case with him

4) intense exercise: cross country skiing certainly qualifies

Please watch yourselves guys: if not for your sake, then your family!:(

Newlander, sorry for your loss.

After heart surgery, they will tell you that you can NEVER shovel snow EVER again! for a couple of the reasons you list above.

They will tell you that after 2-3 minutes of shoveling snow, your heart is pounding at the rate of a marathon runner, and like you say the cold is a factor while shoveling snow as well.

Scary stuff.

I pray that he has full and complete recovery, and that he becomes a Cowboys fan.
