PFT: Former No. 3 Overall pick Trey Lance to hit free agency

Sorry, you're right on Division 1 FCS. But again, I don't have a big problem with the 4th round gamble. I wouldn't have wanted to give up anything higher than that though.
Suffice to say he will never be traded again. He might get a try out somewhere. If he can make at least a practice squad he’ll still make some money. He really should try the CFL. His Dad played in the CFL. That wide field and slower athletes might give him advantages that aren’t there in the NFL.

Agreed. The Cowboys were his shot to show he just needed to get healthy and gain experience, and it didn't work out.

What a colossal waste of time was this guy, and I don't even think it's his fault. The Joneses do this to athletes. Athletes need to not get caught up in Jerry's spider web in the first place if they want a long successful career. Sports Agents take heed by avoiding the Cowboys. Your client's talent will not be maximized in Dallas.
Do you really think Lance would be in the middle of a "long successful career" if it weren't for Jerry?

The notion that Jerry held him back is off base because the one thing Jerry craves is credit for success, and if Lance had success in Dallas that would allow Jerry to take credit for something other teams didn't see or were unwilling to do.

The reality is Lance didn't do enough to earn his way on the field.

We will see. The Cowboys did try to sign him during the season. Lance and his agent felt they could get a better deal in free agency.

You've forgotten it would have meant dealing with the aftermath of Dak failure.

Jerry's assess all risk especially his errors.

I'll be one of the dissenting opinions on this. I think it was worth the risk. It's easy in hindsight to say it was a stupid decision. Keep in mind the 49ers are a well run organization and their management/scouting team saw something in him when they gave away the farm to draft him.
