PFT: Former No. 3 Overall pick Trey Lance to hit free agency

Only losers hope for player failure and only the haters can't see the the guys potential at 24 years old. Trey declined the Cowboys lowball offer but he will be signed pretty fast as a backup.

With Dak' aging legs arms and brain, he would have been a good backup to Dak Prescott

Looks like we're drafting a QB

The Cowboys traded a 4th round pick for him and let him go after watching him everyday in practice. Pretty sure he’s just not good enough to play in the NFL.
Good point. They must not have liked his development during the ‘23 season and then the ‘24 season. I wish we could keep him as a vet minimum 3rd string development player, like we did with Romo, but maybe the 2 seasons we were developing him he just didn’t convince us to keep him.

I still like the gamble of trading a 4th for a QB with potential. The trade I’m mad about is the Mingo trade. That’s just trash. I feel the positions you gamble a 4th or 5th rounder on is: QB, RT, DE and CB. I like gambles at those positions with players with physical tools and potential.

O well at least we’re gambling with 4th rounders now as opposed to 2nd rounders. That’s a step in the right direction.

Giving up a 4th for a guy that isn’t good enough to be a backup but not under control long enough to really develop makes no sense. Lance needs playing time and he had no avenue to get it in Dal.

He missed the Dallas camp in 2023.

Lance will do well under the new HC.

Duncan I respect the commitment to the Lance movement, but its time to move on. Lance already turned down an extension. Stephen Jones has already said they anticipate drafting a QB. This is going to end just like the Kellen Moore dream ended for you.

In this case Lance had a $60M barrier preventing him from advancing.
That had nothing to do with not advancing to a quality backup, nor does it wipe away the fact that Jerry craves being able to claim he is a football guy who saw something in a player others didn't.

Not sure how you "develop" him without playing him.

It was a no win situation for lance. Kid needs thrown into the fire like any other hotshot QB. Sink or swim.
Players don't have an automatic right to play. If he didn't do enough in preseason and practices to get his shot then he didn't earn his way on the field. I think fans tend to forget that coaches see more and work with players more than the opportunities fans get to see them

You make ridiculous points. I'm saying Jerry Jones is the root of everything gone bad for the Cowboys including signing Lance with no path to advance. You disagree then cut your own argument by disparaging Jerry Jones.

This I totally agree with.

He needed to play more in college, especially factoring in, he did not play much in HS.

You don't become an NFL QB, by playing 1 year in college, regardless of how good of an athlete you are.

The QB position at the NFL, is more mental than physical, and it takes a tremendous amount of reps to become proficient at it.
