Jerry said it himself - his goal is to remain 'relevant and interesting'. No need to hate stating what is evident to anyone paying attention.
Yep

And thanks to all of the fans and sponsors the Cowboys remain #1 in revenue despite what Jethro Jone$ represents and the lack of success on the field this era.

It’s like many other top selling Iconic brands in our American culture. Not all are the best product just the most popular .

I suppose if fans could have directly benefited financially from the Cowboys windfall off the field they’d be much more supportive of this old fool.

It doesn’t really need to be said, as history has been proof enough, but JJ’s assessment abilities when it comes to the football team and its potential capability for a championship has been sorely lacking.
A blind person could see this team has a super bowl caliber roster.
We will see if it happens but they have put themselves in position.

Now they need luck and to perform.

When he is dead and gone, and you end up seeing how good he was from an owner pov you will have a different view…:Jerry’s only downfall has been not relinquishing the gm role; however over the past decade will Mclay and others have begun to fill that role from a talent pov…this is why we now have one of the most talented teams in the nfl, a top defense and a legit chance at 3 playoff seasons in a row and a deep playoff run.

Don’t let the two decades post the super bowls blind you to the changes he has gone through in the last decade. This team has been run so much better and the talent and wins show, next up will translate to more playoff success
For those of us who remember the Clint Murchison years....now that was an owner.

Don't take it personal, but I can't help but laugh at anyone brave enough to defend Jerry. This was almost vomit inducing...
Amazingly there are some either blind homers out there or not well informed fans who support the most hated sports personality in the Dallas/ Ft Worth area despite the Cowboys still being the most loved sports franchise.

It’s a mixed bag of emotions for most of us. Unfortunately for many of these fans Jethro has earned a pass for life with the early success he had with Jimmy.

But if you ask fans around the league very few would want an owner like ours this era. He’s the greatest obstacle to overcome.

Yes, this is the man that wasted 10 years of this Franchise insisting Garrett was the next Landry.
You can't make this stuff up.
He IS the reason why the team has not sniffed a NFCCG in 28 years.

If Jerry Jones totally relinquished his self-appointed title of GM today, his net worth would not decrease. He would remain super wealthy. He would continue increasing his net worth annually in Forbes magazine.

His mindset will not allow him to do that. He wants both fortune and exaggerated fame. Hiring a qualified football executive as general manager would promote a different football operations philosophy that could improve coaching and roster alike.

However, that change in personal thinking would only provide Jones with simple fame. He does not only wish admiration as an owner who wins Super Bowls. He wants the adoration of being the only person who can accomplish the feat.

This should always be considered with the false assumption of greed. He cares for more than just money. And that has been his personal managerial flaw over the decades since Jimmy Johnson's departure.

Will this season and the years to come be any different if he keeps a vise grip on the GM position? Only time will say otherwise.
Just a perspectice reminder here:

Although Jerry Jones retained the title of General Manager, it became apparent that part of the agreement to get Parcells to coach in Dallas was control of player personnel.

This included the draft. Dallas had its best draft since Jimmy Johnson's departure in 2003.

Dallas selected defensive back Terence Newman in the first round with the firth overall pick. Center Al Johnson followed in the second round.

Jerry's ego nor naievete are not where fans place it. This team is solid all the way through as to it's being built on solid ground.

What fans like this don’t see is the fact he won’t relinquish his GM role is the very thing that’s preventing this franchise from more success.

And they even admit as such in a sense .

Most important job as owner is to hire someone and let them take credit running it. Which he’s unwilling to do.

Well, he tried once but winning back to back championships wasn’t enough. That’s really all of the evidence we need.

Cool photo !!!! I had forgotten about it.

Back on the old DC.com board I asked a member who was good with photoshop to superimpose Jerry onto the original and this was the result. Clown Burger is an actual place in Haltom City, TX. Here's the original sign this photo came from:

We’ve had a SB caliber defense over the past few years. SB caliber teams get to conference championship games at least once in a decade.

Regardless, the point of my comment was to emphasize Jerry’s general lack of football aptitude in assessing team quality, as he has done this a lot over the past almost three decades, but the results are lacking. Like the common saying shows, even a blind squirrel can find a nut every once in a while, just like even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Dallas Cowboy fans have NO INTEREST in "ownership" success of our team. We want success on the field, great succes. This is where Jerry has failed in what ever role he has with the team. I was a Cowboy fan way before Jerry came along, and I'll be a fan long after he's dead. It's just unfortunate he selected himself GM.

Why has 30 other NFL owners not followed Jethro’s model this era?
Sorry, guy, this team is a good team and that requires no apology, ego, or insult.

That is fully sufficient....blow the whistle and start the season.

I'm not crying. I learned to not have to live on excuses when I started into the Service.

You continually imply that I am wrong as well as blind because I'm not complaining in the present. I am fully aware of all Cowboy history and have be their fan since their day one.

Unlike most fans, I do believe Jerry wants to win. Why wouldn't an egomaniac want to win the greatest sports trophy on Earth? It's just him and his seedlings have proven they aren't very good at it. They can build competent teams, as we've seen, but they've yet to prove they can build a real winning group.

As a fan, I am basically riding on the law of averages at this point. Some year Dallas is going to make a run..............................................right??? RIGHT???

I hate to say this, but something is missing. Can't quite put my fingers on it but I'm not feeling a sense of urgency from him or Dak in this interview. Let me put it another way.......I'm not feeling the type of passion/fire we see in Parsons. JMO
I will say again what ive said before, if Parsons wants to have a legacy of an all time great he will have to win 1-2 SBs and to do that he will have to leave Dallas because this team is about ‘relevance’ and ‘good enough’ not about greatness

27 years without an appearance in the NFC championship game defies the law of averages. You have less than a 3% chance of accomplishing this. It didn't just happen because we were unlucky. It happened because the man who is large and in charge makes decisions that affect the odds.

Take a look at years actually making it to the playoffs...or is that considered a non-value. Every fan wishes his team to win it all.

With a 27 year window as the sole explanation does not remove the ability to win now! This is football and the games still have to be played, whether or not Dallas deserved better results by their team quality for specific years. It still is football and reasons do affect outcomes. Not just blame.
