Cowboys players know this rivalry. They know who Michael Irvin, Deion Sanders, and Everson Walls are so they know this rivalry. I believe they get a first class education in Cowboys history during their orientation and consistently from the Cowboys fans.

I think Cowboys players are familiar with the roots of the Cowboys legacy and any discussion of playoff successes must include the 49ers going back to 1970.

Not only were the Cowboys and 49ers in three straight NFC championship games in the early 90's, they were in three straight playoffs including two NFC championship in the early 70's and the Cowboys won all three.

Go back another decade and that's why I hate the Steelers. Well, that and growing up an hour from Pittsburgh at the time.

I took a lot of abuse in school for those 70s Super Bowls.

……that was the golden age of football for many

Some of us are old enough to remember 1972, Staubach leading Cowboys stirring 15 pt comeback win over the 49ers in the divisional playoffs. Called him 'Captain Comeback' later. It's worth checking out on Youtube. With Charlie Waters and Bob Lilly commentary.
Good grief, 50 years ago. Time for a nap.

Why should they, it was thirty years ago. I don't consider SF a rival at all.
Not being a student of history, you are doomed to repeat it. So here we are. The team that learned the lessons of the past will be more prepared for the future.

I understand that it might be nostalgic for some of the older audience, but it was like 30 years ago. Time to let go!
It was a fun rival for that time, but I agree they are nothing more than another team that is standing in the way this week.

Yep but it ruined his career, he couldn't play anything else, no matter what he's Superman.

Did ya know before Superman he was in Gone With the Wind?

He's right, the only ones that do remember are the fans that have been sitting around waiting for 25 or so years for Dallas to make some noise again
