So we offer at least a 1st for him and the Giants offer a 6th for Tony Gonzalez. This is why our team is going to sink back to the basement.

Yeah, Saints too because they paid what for Shockey?

Get real. Gonzo is at the end of his career. Dallas could get the full length of a contract out of RW.

Let's see Tony Gonzalez is an old over the hill TE and Roy Williams is a good receiver right in his prime. If the Giants are offering anything under a 4th they are crazy. I don't see what the big deal is.

Assuming Vilma stays healthy, the Giants could be getting the Saints' #1 pick, why? B/c if Vilma takes 85% of the snaps, then they have to give the Jets their #2, and they DON'T have a #2 left for next year if so, so they have no choice but to give the Giants their #1.

Really, the Giants are stacked with picks next year, they have leverage to pull the trigger.

No way would I give up a 1st. But we are talking about Jerry.

He'll take a recent 2nd round TE and then throw in a backup LB just for the heck of it for a 4th rounder. And then turn around and draft a TE in the 2nd to replace the 2nd round TE we just traded.

Nothing surprises me with that man. I bet he can't even win in his fantasy league.

To me, it depends on how much more than a first rounder they want.

I don't know if Roy is worth a first. I just want to make that clear. The Cowboys might think he is.

If that is the case, how much farther are you willing to go to make a deal? Do they also want a 5th or 6th rounder? Considering how you can usually get one of those back pretty easy, do you consider it?

In the end, I'm not sure that I want to make that deal. Oh, I'll get excited if it happens. But I wonder if this team might have more holes than we previously thought?

If we could get a 5th or 6th rounder from Miami (presumably it would be higher than our 6th anyway) for a guy like Carpenter...and that's what Detroit needs, I'd probably pull the trigger.

WRs usually take a while to blossom in this league, so why not trade for a guy who is going to be better than most 1st rounders. At least with Williams you know what you are getting.

Owens is also getting up there in years, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to have some long term cover at that spot.

Maybe Detroit thinks Jerry hasn't learned a thing from the Galloway fiasco years ago.

A move for Williams gets you help for Owens, now, and gives you a veteran guy to be in TO's place when he's gone and allows you to then groom an up and comer at that time while Williams is still playing.

This would be a great long term deal for Dallas if it's able to happen.

Not sure if this has been posted

The Dallas Cowboys are discussing with the Detroit Lions a trade for wide receiver Roy Williams, a team source told ESPN.com Tuesday.

NFC East blog

ESPN.com's Matt Mosley writes about all things NFC East in his division blog.

• Blog network: NFL Nation

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones believes Williams is a game-breaker who provides an immediate boost to a faltering offense without quarterback Tony Romo and views him as a potential long-term solution as the eventual replacement for aging Terrell Owens, according to another high-ranking Cowboys source.

The source said the Cowboys are willing to make the deal, but the Lions seem hesitant because they are operating without a general manager. Former GM Matt Millen had discussed the possibility of trading Williams with the Cowboys frequently before he was fired.

The Lions have been demanding a first-round draft choice just to consider a deal, and it is not known if Jones is willing to make the trade at that compensation level. The Cowboys could offer a second- and third-round pick, since they have multiple choices in the third round.

Williams has expressed unhappiness playing for the winless Lions and can become a free agent after the season unless the team places the franchise tag on him.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen, attending the meeting of league owners, reported that the Cowboys' NFC East rivals the Philadelphia Eagles have also made inquiries about Williams' availability. While one GM said there was a strong possibility the Lions would trade Williams to the Cowboys or Eagles on

Tuesday, Philadelphia is believed to be more interested in Kansas City Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez. The New York Giants and Green Bay Packers are also pursuing a deal with the Chiefs.

However, sources told ESPN's Michael Smith on Tuesday that it appeared very unlikely Gonzalez would be traded.

In Dallas, Jones is known for a failed deal in which he traded two No. 1 draft picks to the Seattle Seahawks for wide receiver Joey Galloway in an attempt to provide Troy Aikman one more chance at the Super Bowl.

The Cowboys would like to find a way to avoid the two- to three-season span it seems to take to develop a young receiver for that role. But the Cowboys are concerned about how Owens would react to the addition of another prominent receiver and the possibility it would diminish his role rather than provide him occasional single coverage. The potential negative effect on the overall offensive chemistry is also a concern and some in the organization prefer to wait until the offseason to make such a move.

Either way, Jones definitely wants him and there have been very few times in his two decades of ownership that the Cowboys have failed to acquire a player Jones covets like he does Williams.

Think about guys we'll have Romo, Barber, Witten, Felix, Roy all under 30 for the future. That's a pretty good core of guys for our offense!!
