MOSS DEAL HINGING ON CONDITIONAL PICK

There's a hitch that has emerged in the ongoing negotiations between the Packers and the Raiders regarding the terms of a potential trade of receiver Randy Moss to Green Bay.

We're told that the Raiders will only take quarterback Aaron Rodgers if there's also a conditional draft pick based on Rodgers' performance in 2007.

In short, if Rodgers doesn't perform, the Packers have to give up more in 2008.

The Packers' concern is that, because the Raiders have been so bad of late on offense, it's a given that Rodgers won't play well in 2007. Moreover, the Packers are concerned that the Raiders will bench Rodgers at some point during the season in order to ensure that a higher pick will come their way from Green Bay in 2008.

To resolve this potential impasse, we're told that the Packers are considering offering a 2009 conditional pick based on Rodgers' play in 2007 and 2008.

As we see it, the conditional pick should also be tied to the performance of Moss. The more he does in 2007, the more the Raiders get in 2008.

Really, the trade is about Moss, not Rodgers. And if Moss plays at Lambeau Field like he has performed there while a member of the Vikings, the Packers should be happy to eventually give up a first-day pick in 2008.

John Kincaide was talking about the possible trade on ESPN radio earlier today. He was against it even though he thought Favre proved everybody wrong by having a good year the past season. He also was impressed the way Favre finished the season. I just can't agree with this.

Favre had a decent season. He is still better than many QBs in the league, but that is relative. Right now he is at best an aveage QB.

Favre attempted a career high 613 passes last season topping his previous high of 607 attempts in 2005. He is throwing it around more and being less efficient with it. He completed only 56% of his passes, which was the lowest of his career for a single season. His 18 TD passes tied for the fewest he has thrown in a single season since 1992, his first year in GB. His 6.3 yards per pass attempt tied for his lowest since his 2nd year in GB and he still also threw 18 INTs. That is down from the 29 he threw in 2005, but still too many.

In the last six games of 2006, Favre threw for 5 TDs and 11 INTs. That is not finishing strong.

All in all, trading for Moss is not going to accomplish much for Green Bay. There may be some highlight plays, but his addition is not going to propel the Packers to a team capable of going deep in the playoffs. Favre's skills are clearly deteriorating and so are Moss'.

I dont get the Love affair with Favre, if he was not who he is he would be fighting for his starting job. Green Bay needs to look at the future of the QB position.

GB should teach the Raiders a lesson and threaten them with the prospect that they keep Moss. He can pout on the Raider sideline for another season. :laugh2:

Javon Walker was an injury risk and you had to wonder whether he could repeat his previous performance, but I agree with you. I would've preferred him over TO, simply because of the age factor. Performance-wise he's been able to bounce back pretty nicely even with Plummer/Cutler throwing to him.

Was'nt it the Packer fans that Moss mooned one time during a game?

I wonder what they would think of him if he signed with the Packers?

(probably how some Cowboy fans felt about T.O. after the Boyz signed him)!

;)

I think their board will look a lot like this one, those who defend Moss and others who will not like him.

Farve to the turf is my all time favorite thing to watch.

One of the most brutal hits I have seen is Favre getting nailed in a Cowboys playoff game. He saw the defender in front of him, but not the one behind him. I think it was Tolbert. When Favre got hit, his head and neck just whipped back as his body went forward. I was impressed he got up, but that was vicious.

Apparently GB has no plans for life after Favre.

I remember that. They sandwiched him pretty good.

Also, if you remember, he played better in that game after the hit than he did before it. He always settled in a played well after getting a big hit.

I recall telling the girl I was dating at the time that he was going to play well after that, and sure enough he did.

He's one tough hombre, I'll give him that. He's about done though and needs to hang it up.

Javon Walker w/ Denver
