But I will add another brick on the load of what needs to be managed.

Since Jason now has reportedly been offered a HC position with Baltimore, and Jerry is reportedly pulling out the stops to get him to stay, the floor underneath Wade would certainly feel more unstable now.

The difference for 2008 is that Jason is no longer a young guy with potential for the unknown future. He is now a bonafide "Jerry wants him as HC" along with other NFL franchises.

Its one thing to kow that as an NFL HC you are always on thin ice. Its another to know that the owner just confirmed his love for the guy already under your roof.

But again, I don't think its certain disaster. Just needs to be managed.

I don't see how that's any more true now than it was last Spring. He would simply be paying him more now than then to be the coordinator.

Finally, we still can't understand why there's such a scramble for Garrett. With all due respect, he's a one-year coordinator who might or might not have the skills to be an NFL head coach. Meanwhile, it's a buyer's market this year, and five of the final eight teams were coached by guys who had head-coaching experience before joining their current teams.

We're not saying that Garrett doesn't deserve to be a head coach. But we're struggling to comprehend how he has become the prom queen of the 2008 hiring cycle when plenty of other guys are available -- including guys who have NFL head-coaching experience.

I think Garrett should be considered a young unproven small school prospect with great measureables that just had an eye-popping workout. Many teams will tell you why he's a big risk on draft day and then be unable to resist that potential if he falls to them and they have a need in that area.

By paying him like a head coach, Jerry just confirmed that he sees him as a head coach, IMO.

What is "paying him like a head coach?" It's not unusual that an assistant on one team would get paid more than a head coach on a different team. I'm not sure the market for coaches is so clear that you could say "this is what you pay head coaches and this is what you pay assistant coaches."

WHO’S LEAKING GARRETT INFO?
Posted by Mike Florio on January 16, 2008, 2:07 p.m.
As more and more media reports surface regarding the apparently intense demand for the services of Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, we’re starting to hear whispers from league insiders regarding the question of whether the reports regarding the free-for-all are legit.

There’s talk that the Ravens haven’t actually made Garrett an offer to become the team’s next head coach, and that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones hasn’t actually promised to match an financial package that Garrett receives elsewhere.

Even if the reports were true, there’s a sense in some league circles that neither the Ravens nor the Cowboys (two organizations that typically keep things close to the vest) would have leaked the information.

So who’s leaking it? Some league insiders suspect that Garrett’s agent, David Dunn, is putting out the information in order to drive up the price tag that ultimately is paid for Garrett.

If that’s true, it could hurt Garrett when he’s under consideration for jobs in the future. And it also could prompt the Ravens never to make him an offer (if they haven’t already) or to yank their offer (if they have).

And then there is a "report" that the bolded sentence from PFT above is also unconfirmed and may in fact just be PFT making something out of nothing once more.

If that's true it could hurt PFT if they ever come under consideration for being named a legitimate organization.

No immediate danger however. :laugh2:
