It depends which mistakes we're talking about. Locking in on one receiver and throwing into double coverage gets talked about a lot, but that had never been a problem before the end of this year, and I think that was a new mistake for a new reason.
Throwing picks in general is another thing he gets criticized for, but his TD/INT ratio didn't really change very much from the fantastic year he had last year. One difference may be that the picks came in bunches in 07 (Buffalo), so the picks he threw this year might have had a bigger impact on close games, but on the whole, they guy turns the ball over because he's enormously productive throwing the ball and the interceptions are proportional with his production.
The big difference in his play this year was in fumbles. Clearly, he has to take better care of the ball in the pocket. Whether it's throwing it away, knowing when not to make a play, or fixing some of the blocking problems we've got, that problem needs to be fixed for us to improve. His second big issue this year was in converting first downs. He set a torrid pace in 07 and wasn't able to match it last year. That's another 'new mistake,' though, so it's not evidence that Tony won't work or can't learn.
The stuff about his preparation and willingness to work is all empty noise. It's the worst kind of empty noise, too, because we'd have the exact opposite sorts of sounds going on if literally one or two plays broke differently last year. If you guys can't remember or don't realize how much better Romo made this team when he returned, injured, to the starting lineup, then there's no hope for any of you, ever. You're all more or less dead to me. The guy needs to play better, but the team has so many more significant problems that are less visible and more important, it's a shame we spend so much time talking about superficial hearsay.
