The Broncos placed starting right guard Ron Leary on injured reserve, but he won’t need back surgery, coach Vance Joesph said Tuesday. “Ron Leary needs rest and rehab right now,” Joseph said. “Just smart for both parties involved.” Leary missed the past two games, with Connor McGovern replacing him. Leary’s absence will allow the Broncos [more]http://youwillnotrackme2.net/b.gif?host=profootballtalk.nbcsports.com&blog=&post=2498076&subd=nbcprofootballtalk&ref=&feed=1

Hate to see him hurt . He has not payed as well recently as he did in September, so I have read. Did he benefit from playing next to Tyron just like Cooper seems to?

Personally I think he is better OG than cooper. Cooper looked lost when smith went down. Leary had very little drop off with chaz at LT. I also think Leary is smarter OG than cooper and that is why when Chaz was next to Leary level of play did not fall off. I think Leary may have coach up Chas while he was playing.

Here is what I would say. When Leary first got here, and actually the first 3 seasons, or so, the fans were brutal on that guy. It's not been since the last few years that the fans have started coming around on him, as a player. I believe that Ron Leary was a much better player then many of us gave him credit for, when he was here, but that back issue is a problem and the Cowboys knew it. That's why he didn't get a long term deal here.

I think Cooper has played much better then many thought he would or think he has. I don't know if he will finish the season strong or not but I think he will. I think he will be better next year and he may develop into our LG. Time will tell.

It was Leary's knees that were the issues, they were a ticking time bomb in a sport where knee injuries are very common, and that is one way that the degenerative part of his knee issue could kick in.

Green played much better last year; so Leary did not have any problems working next to him. Leary would have been in deep doo doo if he had to play next to the disaster that was Green this year

I do not think a player goes from slightly above average to garbage in one off season for no reason.

Cooper is the better run blocker. Leary is the better pass protector. Mainly because Leary can really anchor and doesn't get fooled on stunts and little things pass rushers like to do to get to the QB. But, Cooper has better upper body strength and is more mobile. Cooper really turns defenders well and at times does it about as good as you'll see from a guard.

I don't know if Cooper will ever be as good in pass pro as Leary was, but it could happen with a little more game experience and another offseason with the team. And if we get Collins playing like he has the past month and can stay healthy...this O-Line could be more dominant than it was before because Collins has better athleticism in pass protection and is a ferocious run blocker. You kinda never knew what you were going to get with Free and I think 2016 Leary and 2017 Cooper are basically equals.

Leary was injured every year that he played. Sometimes he played through the injury but was terrible in those games. He was benched and replaced by Collins due to being injured.

I liked Leary but it was too much risk to pay him 9M per.

that is the really puzzling thing about Green. He played quite well at LT last year in two games but was a dumpster fire this year.
I think it was injury related. He was not moving well in that game. I think he would be better than Bell if given another chance, but he just can't be counted on to stay healthy.

I agree no way was the team going to keep leary and leary did not want to stay. I just think that Leary is better OG on a island and does not need two all pros besides him to look good. Unlike Cooper.

I think Cooper is reasonably good now. I think he was trying to help Green in that one game and it distracted him from his own responsibilities.

Cooper is an odd player to analyze. Often when he fails it more of a late reaction off the snap than a lack of physical ability.

Maybe, maybe it was Leary was in the system l;ong enough that he was assignment sound and also able to help Chaz. I just do not see a guy that played with borderline starter level just completely fall to shambles the next season with the only change being the OG next to him.
