PFT Rumor Regarding Pats

Pro Football Talk is reporting a rumor that the Patriots were caught as a result of a sting operation by the NFL Competition Committee; the Committee is trying to get the additional 2 votes needed to put radios in the helmet of the defensive leader and thus eliminate signals altogether.

They’re also saying that Eric Mangini began spreading the word throughout the league in 2006 that the Patriots were stealing signals.

Those so called "super"bowl teams couldnt hold a jock strap to our 90's teams or the 49er's of the 80's!

Because he was part of it in 2005.

There's is an hysterical graphic- which I probably cannot post on this forum- pertaining to all this. I'll just say it's a takeoff on the Wheaties box.

*CHEATIES*
*Belichek's mug*
*Free Spy Camera Inside!*

(a reference to Tom Brady is the naughty part)

That would explain Mangini's icy relationship with the hobo. It's great to find out that someone you loathe is a dirty cheater.

My post in another thread about this....

It sure is easy to win when you know what the defense is doing. Anyone else notice that the Patriots offense didn't explode until after halftime? I always suspected the Patriots of cheating ever since that playoff game against the Raiders when Brady had that fumble ruled an incomplete pass. Now we have proof....maybe Billy B isn't such a genius after all. Anyone can look like a genius when you have the other teams playcalls. I hope they lose draft pick over this.

I think serious penalties need to be handed down. It is basically on the same level as game fixing to me. I am quite sure some of this was done in playoff and championship games as well. Could the league possibly take away their win against the Jets this year and wipe the stats out of the record books?

Draft picks (including a first rounder) + monetary fine + suspension of belicheck for 3-5 games is necessary. That would send an appropriate message to the league that this is intolerable.

I would give him an entire year suspension. That would sent an earth shattering message to all coaches and owners. You cheat, your team is headless.

No way the NFL would do that...I can't think of any precedent for it.

I don't think that is even CLOSE to hard enough

I doubt it. It's already in the books. There are many other type things they can do to even it up though. Of course for the Jets it's probably not going to matter as they may not make the playoffs anyhow. They weren't going to beat the Pats anyhow.

Terrell Davis on Total Access last night said that there ought to be a "death penalty" for NFL teams in that if they are caught cheating on this level, then they have no opportunity to advance to the playoffs, even if they are 16-0 at the end of the regular season. That and take away draft picks and give suspensions and fines.

Can't do it and will never happen. NFL is about money PERIOD. Pats are a big money team. The death penalty in the NFL is about draft picks. It is by far the most influential part of the game. Without them, a team will slide into the bottom half of the league.

I would make 'em forfeit the season. No Super Bowl for you...

Of course this has nothing to do with our Super Bowl aspirations :D

The Patriots did not cheat on the Tuck Rule in that Raiders playoff game. It is a bad rule. There is no doubt about that, but it was applied correctly in that situation. Plus to say they cheated would mean the refs had to be in on it since they made the call and the review official is part of the referee crew.

well if Wade Wilson can get a 5 game suspension and a 100K fine for using a legal substance and it was legal (just not permitted in the NFL) for impotence...than I would suggest a 5 year 1st round ban and a 10Mil salary cap reduction, plus a lifetime ban on BB...I think that would be enough of an eye opener that it won't happen again:eek:

While this is a devious move, I liken it to steroid use on an individual level. It's cheating and gives you an unfair advantage, but it isn't like you were absolutely going to lose had you not done it, either.

I do agree that harsher would send a more stern message, but I don't know how important that is. I think that about 5 games, a 1st rounder, a third rounder and a 5 million dollar fine will let the league know that the NFL is serious. If it ever happens again, woe be unto the team that thought they could get away with it.

I think that Wade nailed this on its head this morning - there are some in the league that want to prevent this by adding a radio into the defensive captain's helmut. I think that in light of these investigations, it's likely that New england voted against it.

And I bet cash that it gets voted in next offseason.

Thar be some politics in this situation.
