well if Wade Wilson can get a 5 game suspension and a 100K fine for using a legal substance and it was legal (just not permitted in the NFL) for impotence...than I would suggest a 5 year 1st round ban and a 10Mil salary cap reduction, plus a lifetime ban on BB...I think that would be enough of an eye opener that it won't happen again:eek:

That's ridiculous.

"Could the league possibly take away their win against the Jets this year and wipe the stats out of the record books??"

No way the NFL would do that...I can't think of any precedent for it.

The thing with a precedent is that at some point one has to be set. Why not now?

Pro Football Talk is reporting a rumor that the Patriots were caught as a result of a sting operation by the NFL Competition Committee; the Committee is trying to get the additional 2 votes needed to put radios in the helmet of the defensive leader and thus eliminate signals altogether.

They’re also saying that Eric Mangini began spreading the word throughout the league in 2006 that the Patriots were stealing signals.
The last part is interesting. Might explain why Mumbles hates him.

The BIG question is how many playoff games and SUPER BOWLS did they do this in?

I can't stand them, but watch them go out this weekend and beat the Chargers 40-0 just to show everyone they can win without cheating. You know, the old "us against the world" routine.

I don't know that we'll ever know. Further, I don't know if we'll ever know how much of an advantage this proved to be. The coordination of learning a) what the signals mean b) relaying that to Belichek and c) responding to that with an offensive call would be pretty difficult. I'm sure there is an advantage, but I don't know how sizeable.

Not that this lessens the severity of the offense - cheating is cheating, and any unfair advantage is loathesome.

I wish someone would do a statistical analysis of the Patriots since their meteoric rise from nowhere into a dynasty. Does anyone remember the year of their 1st SB? They were predicted to be a bottom dweller and all of a sudden a bunch a nobodies became NFL superstars. I'd like to know how their 1st half of game stats compare to their 2nd half stats. I'd like to see records and stats from coaches and players who have left the team or who have come to the team and compare the stats from when there were not with the Pats to when they were. I think patterns would certainly become apparent and we could all then conclude that this has been going on for some time and has given them an unfair advantage.

I don't really have the time right now to do it, but I'd love to see how many games they have come out after halftime and made ALL the right adjustments and ended up running away with what was a close game.

The T-wolves in the NBA got their butts handed to them for cheating at the GM level, I think something similar should be in order (IIRC they took away their draft picks for like 5 years plus a heavy fine).

after that punishment do you think another team will do it... I don't believe they would... it has to be the strongest message that the league has ever sent other wise it won"t amount to a hill of beans in the long run and the punishments you are suggestion isn't much worse than having a hand slapped or having to kiss your sister/aunt/cousin when you were small...way too light Bro... People have been suggestion for 4 years that something has been foul about NE and now we know what.

That would be interesting, and maybe not shocking to see the results. That being said, their rise wasn't unprecedented, either. The Rams had made the exact same jump from crap to greatness the year before. Maybe they were doing the same thing, but I think it is more likely that parity was at it's peak at that time (note that it has lessened some since then).

Their defense was and has been very good, and let's not forget - they are accused of stealing DEFENSIVE play calls. That would affect the Pats offense, not their defense. And one of the biggest factors in offensive improvement was Tom Brady.

The punishment I presented would also be the harshest of it's kind. When has a team ever been fined millions, lost a high draft pick or three and had their coach suspended midseason? What you are suggesting is overkill.

Maybe if the Pats had a mole in the other organization and were getting copies of the game plan that would be a fair punishment, but what you are suggesting is essentially the SMU-Death Penalty in the NFL. The punishment does not match the transgression.

but it might cause the opposing offense into being one dimensional after getting the lead thus allowing their defense to just pin their ears back and go... I'm telling you friend this just stinks and makes me very angry

I saw they line up Belicheat over a large deep pit...have the Commish stand in front, kick em in the chest into the pit and scream "THIS IS THE NFL".

That would probably send a pretty harsh message :D

look each team gets a book of photos when they come to a sideline after a series if at half time they can match up a signal with what is being called they may know for example that a corner blitz is coming from the right and are able to than call the appropriate play to take advantage of that...it just stinks horribly

Sure, that would help some. But really? Do you think that it would make them so much better that they would be the dynasty they are today?

Don't forget - the pats were a mediocre team at 9-7 after their first super bowl win. It isn't as if they have been perfect ever since. Do you think they just took a season off from cheating?

Again, I'm not saying that the cheating isn't a severe offense, but I don't see how you could get such a sizeable advantage that it would propel you into dynastic proportions.

I'll put it this way - I doubt that these allegations really change the Las Vegas line a whole heckuva lot. I still expect a tough game this weekend.

There's is an hysterical graphic- which I probably cannot post on this forum- pertaining to all this. I'll just say it's a takeoff on the Wheaties box.

*CHEATIES*
*Belichek's mug*
*Free Spy Camera Inside!*

(a reference to Tom Brady is the naughty part)

Excellent. Thanks.

I suppose the morning fix of Cheaties will give just that extra advantage you need to screw over the other guy as you take on your day!
