TANK ROLLING TO TEXAS?

Cowboys defensive tackle Jason Ferguson suffered a torn biceps tendon on Sunday night against the Giants. Per the Cowboys' official web site, Ferguson is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Ferguson's absence could (key word: could) mean that the Cowboys will take a look at Tank Johnson, who was cut in the offseason by the Bears after an arrest in Arizona on suspicion of DUI. The only drawback is that Johnson must first serve an eight-game suspension after being signed; thus, he wouldn't be available until the tenth game of the season.

There was some talk after Johnson was cut that the Cowboys might be interested, even though Dallas runs a 3-4 defense and Johnson's NFL experience has come exclusively in the 4-3.

For now, Jay Ratliff will handle the job in Ferguson's place.

if we have a need *now* filling it by game 10 is about as useful as a mcfadden thread. : )

i don't see us going after someone who can't help when at best their availability would be short term - meaning would we want him *more* than this year? if so then we're setting outselves up for disappointment. tank will be tank and he'll screw up again.

if we're only wanting him for *this* year why bother when it's just 6 games?

tank ain't gonna happen.

I can see it. You figure, we will probably re-look at Remi and maybe another guy. Basically, we'll be rotating guys all year, using undersized NTs. They will eventually wear down. I could see us signing a guy like this and bringing him in for the final push, so to speak, to the playoffs. Not saying it will happen. Just that I could see the rational behind it if it were to happen.

We really need to consider this. Jerry isn't shy about giving players second chances. Tank is a necessity at this point.

Normally I don't like the bad character guys, but this one is so tempting. It's hard to find even a servicable NT once the season has started, and this guy would be not just a good one but maybe a great one in this scheme.

We'd take a huge media hit... But if we really thought we had enough other pieces around to make a deep playoff push, we'd have to think about it.

Adding Ellis, Newman, and Tank to what's on D now would make a gargantuan difference.

was owens under suspension?
how many laws has owens broken in his career?

could it happen? i suppose just about anything could, but i would think in this matter i don't see the need to pay out for someone who could go back to an even longer suspension and there - our tied up money just went out the door.

just wouldn't be the smartest move we could make given the guys history. cite one-offs all day long but that's how i see it.

and by the time his suspension is over maybe he already breaks another law and we're just out that cash. i see the rational but i don't agree it's worth the risk, that's all.

Yeah, yeah. Not a smart move given his history. Heard it all before.

No you didn't. T.O. was not someone who was signed during the middle of the season. He was signed in the off season. Tank will not be available for several more weeks. Even if he were signed today, he does not fill a need because he is not available. T.O. did fill a need when signed. Plus Tank is not near accomplished as a player as T.O.

I agree. I don't think Tank will happen either. He has to sit-out 8 games once he is signed. I think that happens only after someone signs him? I could be wrong.

Cides - I think we will be ok in the middle w/ Ratliff and Remi. Get some youth in there. Ratliff seemed to have an ok game last night.

not really...he is a total thug and on top of that, really doesnt fit the scheme anyway...then add in that he'll be absolutely no help until late in the season anyway, and its a waste of time IMO

If this guy doesn't fit the scheme, then Ratliff certainly doesn't. Someone should tell Wade.
