PFT: Tank's Suspension is Shrinking

It didnt make much sense that he would have to be signed in order to start serving his suspension. He definately has talent and it wouldnt hurt to take a look at him in my opinion.

We've been exchanging e-mails for years, ever since he read my work on the Cowboys' newsgroup... naturally he would have followed me in here...

It's a little bit of a PITA, really, seems the guy won't make a move any more without runnin' it past me first... been like that ever since he hired Dave Campo to be head coach... I tried to warn him about that one, but would he listen??

NOOOOOOOOO...

Aw, heck, I wasn't supposed to tell y'all that...

You didn't hear it here...

Jerry says you should call him Mr. Jones... well, actually, he said you should call him "Lord Jones", but I try not to humor him when he gets megalomaniacal like that... I ain't kissin' that ring, I don't know where it's been...
:laugh2:

I guess I should call you "Lord Bear" then, since you appear to have so much influence. I got a great idea Lord Bear... Fitted cap day.

Bonus points if you get that reference.

Tank did play a 1 gap in Chicago... it was just a 4-3 rather than a 3-4. Still he played the NT position and Tommie Harris played the DT position in their defense.

I think he could make the switch just fine. If Ratliff can do it, I think Tank can.

He sure would be a big help come december push time.
This is becoming a no-brainer.

Damn. I wish the bye counted toward the suspension. We could have had him playing against Philadelphia in Week 9.

I think the BYE does count towards the suspension. Isn't the @ PHI game the first opportunity we can have him on the field?

So maybe these threads can wait to week seven, see how Remi and Jay are doing and decide if he could be an upgrade then?

He's eligible for re-instatement Oct. 29. Our schedule goes:

Oct. 21 - Minnesota
BYE
Nov. 4 - Philadelphia

It does? I'd think it wouldn't to make it even for all teams looking to sign Tank.

For example, if the BYE didn't count towards the suspension, then for any team, the earliest he'd be available is week 10 for all teams.

If the BYE did count, then he'd be able to play more games for the Cowboys then the Giants whose BYE is week 9. He'd be able to play 9 games for the Cowboys as opposed to only 8 games for the Giants.

We don't have much of a choice. Tank Johnson, despite his baggage, imo, is a no-brainer. No one questions his talent. He weighs 300 lbs, he's young, and could play the nose in a 3-4. Ferguson, already 30+ will be a year older next year. If Tank gets to Dallas and behaves, he could be here long term. With a need a corner, we damn sure don't need to be using both 1st first rounders next year on yet more defensive players where continuing to ignore our needs at receiver and running back (I doubt Julius is here next year and do you really believe Tyson Thompson is the answer behind Barber?).

There is no point in signing him right now. He has several weeks before he can play, and the team isn't even sure they will even need him. If they sign him now, they could end up just cutting him before he even gets to play due to other roster spots.

First thing you do is watch your current situation. If things look bleak, then you may want to sign him as insurance before he comes off his suspension.

Exactly right, no knee jerk reaction on the teams part. He's never played, from what they said on the radio in a 3-4 defense.

Let's see how Ratliff, and Remi Ayodele does the next several games. Then decide.

And since he is a veteren signed after the 1st game, his pay is not gauranteed for the entire year. No signing bonus, vet minumum, basically week to week then. ONE perceived screw up...he's out the door.

Remi has been cut twice. It wouldn't be knee jerk imo. Sign him and let him start learning the defense. By week 5 of his suspension, I'm sure he'll have suitors other the Dallas.

Nah... it has to count bye weeks, because the league doesn't know who's going to sign him. There will be some teams getting byes before he's signed, and some after he's eligible for reinstatement.

The only way I could see the NFL NOT counting bye weeks would be if he were actually with a team now.

His first offense was real dumb. Having all that firepower in his home.

But really... wasnt the 2nd offense that he was driving after having a few drinks and when tested he was anywhere near drunk. IE. he was more than ok to drive....

I vaguely remember the story... so if its wrong... then, my bad

John Clayton was on the Jen Engel show this morning and he thought Tank could be a Cowboy soon. He said interest in Tank was rising among many teams becuause he got more valuable with every week that passes. And of course good DTs are so hard to find. (Especially 300+ pound ones that run a 4.7.)

That was speculation from him and not any inside info from the team. Still, it's yet another person who thinks it has a good chance of happening.

Let's do it, Jerry... We've had a squeaky-clean team for a while now and can handle the stupid jokes from jealous rivals. ;)

:laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: Your best post ever! Abba abba ca dra-bra, I want to reach up and grab ya....

If you change your mind, I’m the first in line
Honey I’m still free
Take a chance on me
If you need me, let me know, gonna be around
If you’ve got no place to go, if you’re feeling down
If you’re all alone when the pretty birds have flown
Honey I’m still free
Take a chance on me
Gonna do my very best and it ain’t no lie
If you put me to the test, if you let me try

Take a chance on me
(that’s all I ask of you honey)
Take a chance on me

We can go dancing, we can go walking, as long as we’re together
Listen to some music, maybe just talking, get to know you better
’cos you know I’ve got
So much that I wanna do, when I dream I’m alone with you
It’s magic
You want me to leave it there, afraid of a love affair
But I think you know
That I can’t let go

If you change your mind, I’m the first in line
Honey I’m still free
Take a chance on me
If you need me, let me know, gonna be around
If you’ve got no place to go, if you’re feeling down
If you’re all alone when the pretty birds have flown
Honey I’m still free
Take a chance on me
Gonna do my very best and it ain’t no lie
If you put me to the test, if you let me try

Take a chance on me
(come on, give me a break will you? )
Take a chance on me

Oh you can take your time baby, I’m in no hurry, know I’m gonna get you
You don’t wanna hurt me, baby don’t worry, I ain’t gonna let you
Let me tell you now
My love is strong enough to last when things are rough
It’s magic
You say that I waste my time but I can’t get you off my mind
No I can’t let go
’cos I love you so

If you change your mind, I’m the first in line
Honey I’m still free
Take a chance on me
If you need me, let me know, gonna be around
If you’ve got no place to go, if you’re feeling down
If you’re all alone when the pretty birds have flown
Honey I’m still free
Take a chance on me
Gonna do my very best, baby can’t you see
Gotta put me to the test, take a chance on me
(take a chance, take a chance, take a chance on me)

Ba ba ba ba baa, ba ba ba ba baa
Honey I’m still free
Take a chance on me
Gonna do my very best, baby can’t you see
Gotta put me to the test, take a chance on me
(take a chance, take a chance, take a chance on me)

Ba ba ba ba baa, ba ba ba ba baa ba-ba
Honey I’m still free
Take a chance on me

That's what I'm saying. The league doesn't know who's going to sign him so it makes sense for Tank to only be eligible during week 10. Since at that point, everyone in the league has only played 8 games.
