PFT: Troy Aikman calls out Jerry for a 30-year Super Bowl drought

So he "took back" operations right after Switzer won a Super Bowl?

lol yea ok.
Switzer rode the coattails of Jimmy. So said every major leader in that locker room. And the insecurity Switzer showed immediately after the SB, "We did it our way baby..." was really just trying to obscure the obvious: the ghost of Jimmy Johnson.

I refer you to Troy's comments...try condescending to him:

“He knows why we won with Jimmy Johnson, and I believe the reason we won is because every player in that locker room felt, and I think knew, that Jimmy was calling the shots, that Jimmy was in control of their destiny, so if you didn’t do what you were supposed to do by Jimmy’s standards, you were held accountable,” Aikman said. “He was a great evaluator of talent, he drafted those players, he built those teams, he was a tremendous general manager — I say general manager, he was a tremendous evaluator of talent and in many ways he was the de facto general manager. I think he was probably better in that role than he was even as a head coach, as good as he was there.

Jimmy's players, Jimmy's coaches (for the most part), Jimmy's system ...and the players themselves who are NOW consultants and doing the same thing...said so. It's your pickle.

Cool. Not what you said.

Your point is that Dallas should have hired a different GM, fine.

From the Netflix doc, I got the impression that Jerry didn’t like Jimmy being showered with all the attention for winning the SBs and Jerry’s response was to ensure that a coach never win another SB again. Jerry turned the team into a soap opera leveraged solely to the fact that they won 3 SBs and are now able to rely on manufactured drama to stay on the front page.
And he pretty much admitted this to WFAA last July. He knows he is the reason they haven’t won a title in three decades. But since has an inability to build a championship level team, to him, being a soap opera is the next big thing. I don’t think their kids are anything like that. They won’t be able to sell that like him if/when they do take over.

This is why I am so adamant every year against people eating the cheese as long as Jerry is the GM. He makes it impossible to contend because the GM is too important to leave to an unprofessional, unqualified, part time, proven failure in that role or you get 30+ years of this crap. It's like playing NHL Hockey with no goalie the entire season. Yeah, you can win some games, but you'll never contend or compete in the championship.
I beg to differ. You ain't winning any games without a goalie. LOL!!

The worst thing that ever happened to the Cowboys was Jerry winning so soon into his tenure. It made him think he had the right stuff to win continuously and underestimate or completely disregard the impact other people had on the team's success.
I think the league at that time was setup for a guy like Jerry and his “stuff” to be successful, and he did have the right stuff for that timeframe. However the league itself evolved into parity so fast it made Jerry’s right stuff obsolete to where it couldn’t compete in that sphere and he never adapted.

Agree 100%.........it's no longer about blaming players and/or coaches. It has taken me a while to see it, but this is on Jerry 100%. At a very minimum, he should have a high-level assistant GM with some authority working under him and NO, not McClay. He is also part of the problem IMO.

Troy Aikman: Cowboys’ championship drought is hard to fathom

We have heard this before. At this point it seems like Troy is just mad that he is not the Cowboys GM.

He's not fond of abiding by other people's rules...especially in regards to his money.

Very stubborn man.

So? Bill Parcells had a bunch of control too.

You don't know what decisions he is or isn't making today.
Yes, Bill did. That's why right before hiring him Jerry said, "I'm willing to change...". And the coaches were NOT ALLOWED to talk to the media...with rare exceptions. So yeah...Bill did and Campo didn't. Sorry that hurts your feewings.

Jerry has been the one constant the whole time, so yes what the Jerry did in 1999 is very relevant to 2026 because he's the one that has held this franchise back, and continues to do so.

I know, I know, you'll tell me I'm an idiot or something. Have at it.
No because Jimmy was the one making the football decisions back then. Jerry's been doing it for the last 30 years and he's incompetent.
You have made an excellent attempt at sound logic and reason behind these last 30 years of footbal. It is SO obvious.

But the kid is way too attached ot his feelings about it.

Nobody is saying we aren't gonig to "win" this year....depending on why we each define it. Some people are saying we're tired of saying the same thing each and every year and having the same thing happen each and every year. It's a trend...until it's not.

The kid knows what chaos theory is but not trends. Odd.

If Jerry actually valued the Head Coaching profession and insisted on putting the best guys on the field to direct the players he's personally invested heavily in, the outcomes surely could have been different.

Wasting the last 20 years on the likes of Wade Phillips, Jason Garrett, and Mike McCarthy should be punishable by exile.

The jury is still out on the current group, but they seem to show some promise.

Really So even he's gonna keep piling on a very dead horse being beat the subjects already been discussed to death it's ridiculous he's even discussed it before So what they needed more news You mean old news to make it new news to make it anybody's cowboy news just stop the narratives who cares I'd like them to run stories on all the teams that's never even won a Super Bowl And how about all the other ones that have droughts I mean it's almost like a common theme if you need stories if it's a dead area of sports just mention the Cowboys...

It is hilarious to me how it is very obvious that anyone could point to 30 years ago and say that Jerry doesn't know how to win while managing the salary cap and have a completely logical point about why those years are predictive for now, and none of you even try to make it.

It is right there staring at everyone in the face and is an argument that I would buy.
Every year someone tells me this year will be different. Don't jump on the Cowboys bandwagon if you don't believe. They've yet to post an I told you so at the end of the season. If the Cowboys do win anything it will be in spite of Jerry Jones. He wanted the credit for any championships then he gets the blame for our failures. He created a culture that is just hard to overcome and it's been going on for 30 years. He is the one constant

They're competitive all the time idk what you're talking about.
With two straight decades of Franchise QB play, they are something like 10-12th in regular season winning percentage.

But they only have 4 playoff wins in the same stretch, which is in the bottom 3rd.

It's better than the a decent portion of the league, but that's not exactly company that you want to keep.
