WILFORK FINED $15,000
Posted by Michael David Smith on January 4, 2008, 3:58 p.m.

Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting that Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfork has been fined $15,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct.

The fine comes as a result of Wilfork poking at the eye of Giants running back Brandon Jacobs during Saturday night’s New England victory. Wilfork wasn’t penalized at the time because the officials didn’t see it. Jacobs was not hurt.

For Wilfork, it’s the third fine he has received this season. He also got a $12,500 fine for hitting Bills quarterback J.P. Losman in the knee, and a $5,000 fine for a late hit on Cowboys tight end Jason Witten.

If he was fined for every time he tried to take someone's knees out he would owe 110% of his salary to the NFL...

I wonder if the league will be WATCHING him from now on?

He should get a letter. Guy deserves a letter don't you think?

End of the day tho. The guy is one of the dirtiest players in the league today.

I was really surprised that Brandon Jacobs didn't do his soccer move dive when Wilfork poked his eye. The same move he did when Bradie James touched him.

Where's his one game suspension? That's 3 personal foul violations in a season, I thought it was now NFL policy to suspend guys after their third violation?

exactly..

this is ridiculous.. seriously.. first off, this is his third fine.. secondly, all 3 of these things were things that were to intentionally hurt someone.. these are worse than a horsecollar in that Roy does it in the heat of the middle of a play by instinct.. he isn't trying to hurt someone intentionally.. but an eyepoke? going at a QB's knees? hitting someone after a play? much worse.. and another thing is that the fine isn't for very much, Roy's fines were higher too.. this seriously ticks me off..

I know they don't want to do it because of the playoffs, but I think a one game suspension was in order for that foul.

you forget T. Newman ;) ... Well he got a warning that he would get suspended. But that eye poke, was so obviously done on purpose, and such a dangerous thing, that there needs to be a suspension.

Never mind the Monday Night crew telling us what a sweetheart he was in interviews.

Just one of many on the Cheats, though. It's going to be so sweet when they start to decline and they get theirs.

So for an illegal tackle - but NOT intentionally trying to hurt someone - Roy gets suspended after the third time.

For INTENTIONALLY trying to injure players - for the third time - he gets a freakin' 15K fine?

Anyone that thinks the Pats don't get HEAVY favoratism from the new commish is freakin' blind.

Wow. A 15,000.00 fine and NO suspension even though he has been fined before this year twice and TRIED to maim another player. But Roy gets a HUGE fine AND a suspension for tackling a guy.

Umm ok.

It's as bad as the coach who was fined a half a million dollars for such an egregious violation of the rules after being told not to do it but still gets "Coach of the Year".

Welcome to bizarro world, or as I like to call it, "The Land of the Patriot jock Sniffers".

In other words, the NFL.

By the way, I was watching the game out at a restaurant, but how did the officials not see that? I didn't even know it wasn't a penalty until I read this.

I mean, the thing was right out in the open. Not one official saw that?

I agree that he should be suspended or have a much heftier fine. It must be nice to be so arbitrary in their penalties and fines.

But Brandon Jacobs probably needed it. The mouthy Giants have taken provocation to a new art form.

I agree with this. The Giants are mouthy and Wilfork is dirty. I don't like either team. In a just world, both teams will be beaten into submission soon! ;)

Look at the spin coming from Boston on this fine.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The play in question came late in the second quarter. After the Giants completed a pass in their no-huddle offense, linebacker Junior Seau was penalized for delay of game, as officials felt he was holding a Giants player on the ground. Some pushing between the teams ensued and Wilfork's finger was seen pointing at the area above the facemask of Giants running back Brandon Jacobs.

Wilfork was not penalized on the play.

On his web site, Wilfork explained the play this way: "I have received a number of questions about it that just assume I was trying to poke him in the eye. It was nothing more than them doing trash talking and in the heat of the moment I pointed my finger in his face. I did not make contact with his eye or anything like that. After that it was over, on the field emotions are high there were several bumps amongst players and trash talking the whole game. It was one of the biggest games of the season and we all had a lot of emotion in the game. When things like that happen it is all heat of the moment and once the moment is gone it is over. There are no hard feelings and I really think the commentators did a great job of blowing it up. When the game was over we all said our byes and that was that."
