"Wilfork's finger was seen pointing at the area above the facemask of Giants running back Brandon Jacobs."

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Talk about careful wording, pointing at the area above the facemask? What is that? That would be pointing at the top of his helmet.

I believe the clock continued to run during the scuffle and the Giants didn't get any time back. The refs did give the giants back their timeout since they penalized Seau for delay.

What a freaking jerk to deny it. Hey *******, the whole world saw you stick your hand inside his facemask. Just be a man, admit that you made a mistake, and apologize.

This reminds me of the Pats fans denying that he threw his forearm at Losman's knee when it's there for the whole world to see.

Maybe he was warning Jacobs about the dangers of buying a Red Rider Bee-Bee gun.

"You'll shoot your eye out kid."

I tried to tell ya'll this commissioner was a *******....but did you want to listen? Nooooooo...

That's three fines for personal fouls. We're handing out suspensions for that now. Wait, we're not? What? Wilfork's case is different why? He's been fined twice for plays that could be construed as intent to injure, and now he sticks his finger right in Jacobs eye and is simply fined? It's not like Wilfork hasn't gotten away with plenty of knee -dives that he had the good-fortune of not injuring the opposing QB, and thus avoiding the fine.

Here's the play that knocked Losman out for a few weeks. There are plenty more of those plays in a Wilfork highlight reel - he makes a habit of launching himself at the knees of opposing QBs. But no injury=no fine.

So please - "Goodell lovers" - defend your boy. This is exactly the sort of crap I warned you about when he was on his power trip in the offseason, when you couldn't see past the glory of him "cleaning up the league". Wilfork's fines have escalated just as Roy's have. These are all personal fouls. So how can Goodell justify suspending one player and not the other? Because one plays for New England? Is this the freaking NBA we're talking about here, where superstar players and teams are afforded luxuries that the other squads couldn't hope for? Heck, if that was the case at least we as fans of an illustrious franchise could look forward to some breaks, but that clearly isn't the case.

Basically, this post is a big GD "I told you so." Quite a few of us took an enormous amount of ****, and were labeled as (to paraphrase) thug-lovers, Pac-Man's defense team, and any other amount of garbage simply because we warned that Goodell's inconsistency in doling out punishment could extend itself farther - and this is clearly another case of that happening. So where's your defense for Messiah Goodell? By all means, I'd love to hear it.

WILFORK GOT OFF WAY TOO EASY

We're amazed -- amazed -- that Pats defensive tackle Vince Wilfork was fined only $15,000 for treating Giants running back Brandon Jacobs like he'd just said "nyuk, nyuk, nyuk."

Wilfork jammed his stubby finger into Jacobs' eye!

Sure, Jacobs wasn't hurt. But the act was still heinous. If the officials had seen it, he surely would have been ejected. So why wasn't he suspended?
And given that it was Wilfork's third fine of the year for on-field misbehavior, we think that he at least should have been fined far more than $15,000.

Finally, a reader has made a great suggestion. Why not base these fines on a percentage of the player's annual salary? As it now stands, these penalties affect players of different income levels differently. The goal, however, should be to create a deterrent effect that is consistent. The best way to do that is to take away a specific portion of the player's pay.

Roy may have horsetackled dozens of players, his suspension was probably unwarranted. Wilfork is also on thin ice now -

Which begs the question, how much did Roy's suspension cost him. Was that 15k plus a game check?

I demand justice.

And watch this get ZERO mention from the talking heads, other than a tiny footnote.

:D This league has become very stupid this year. It really seems like they're trying to do whatever it takes to get the Patriots to the Superbowl -- refs, slaps on the wrists, no suspensions. :p This is becoming the WWE.

Sadly this is true. What do you think would have happened had Wilfork actually poked his eye and blinded him?

Some Boston paper would say the finger was above the helmet. :D I mean seriously, we all saw that the finger was inside the helmet, as he talked so smack, before he deliberately pushed the finger to the eye.

this is just crazy....Goodell is as bad as Selig and just needs to go away. I have no doubts now that the pats will winn the SB because the regs will allow them to, no team has a chance.

The Pats are pretty good. But I swear, if they have a close game and get the Steeler-like 05 SB treatment, I may go ballistic.

Every freaking game this year when the game got tight, the refs stepped in to bail out the Pats.

The only chance for the Pats to lose is if somebody just takes them out behind the woodshed one day and beats them silly so even the refs couldnt help them out.

Kinda like what we did to Chicago, we were getting screwed on call after call after call, luckly Grossman kept throwing pick 6s until it got to the point that even the refs said "*** this, Bears suck" and just stopped trying to help them out.

That is what somebody is going to have to do to the Pats, beat them so bad that even the refs know it is a lost cause. :)

I keep saying this and get lambasted for suggesting it's possible. Mark these words, if the Pats are in a close game there is NO CHANCE they lose. If anything goes against them there will be a flag to save the day, or a lack of flag on an obvious penalty.

We will need to be up > 14 points entering the fourth quarter to have a chance. And don't even go there with the Jags or Colts will beat them first, that has about 0% chance of happening.

I kinda like the WWE, but is it real? :D

He's a Patriot. That ice is 17 feet thick.
