PFW: Austin pushing Crayton

this is why I find it hilarious when people are so afraid of the unknown, that they are willing to try almost anything, such as pursuing dead-beats such as Joe Horn and Matt Jones

we brought these young guys into the fold for a reason, it's time to start giving them time to develop

I only hope Austin, and Hurd, can continue their impressive offseason showing, and translate it into the regular season, even if only Austin forces teams to respect his speed, it could do wonders for our offense, and ultimately our team's chances of success

Austin pushing Crayton may be a little misleading. Crayton is best working out of the slot and Austin, if he can catch and stop falling down, would work best opposite of Owens.

YAKUZA

The title of this thread is a tad misleading. The article says Austin "could" push Crayton. Just pure speculation based on a solid mini-camp. There is no indication anyone in the Cowboys org thinks Austin is pushing Crayton at this point. And push him for what #2, #3? After the 16 million contract he just got? What about Glenn?

I take this report with a grain of salt.

Whoa, whats wrong?

I was expecting a "Miles Austin is going to break out this year!"

You just made threesportstar squeal like a girl ;)

:laugh2: I just think he's ready to take that next step, he's really putting in the work... It's year three, time to shine.

I'd love to see it happen

I'd rather groom in house talent the reward them down the line... WR's and QB's are the toughest positions to judge because they take the longest to develop.

Cowboys sources have been impressed with the development of Miles Austin, who made a few impressive plays in minicamp and could push Patrick Crayton at some point. Austin steadily has improved as a wideout and has good enough size to be a factor in the red zone, as opponents key on Terrell Owens and Jason Witten.

Been saying it for a year and a half (search my posts I kid you not) Austin Miles is going to be good! I hope he destroys Crayton at camp.

Austin Miles eh? What inside information do you have of a secret new receiver who has entered the fold?

I have learned from many years of experience that it is too early to get excited about a player when they are opening eyes in a minicamp.

Pshaw. Why wait for evidence? I have no time - I'm already psyched for Austin's HOF introduction.

Can I at least see this kid catch a few passes in a preseason game before I start moving him past Crayton on the depth chart.

Sorry I will take someone who has good hands and has proven himself in a NFL over a minicamp superstar.

Austin has a lot of work to do and is still behind hurd. Every year this board falls in love with some underdog and claim they have the tools, skills, and just need the chance and every year these guys fail.

I truly hope Austin picks up his game, but I am not sure he will make the team much less start.

Doesn't Austin usually have a good camp before the season starts? Let's see what he can do during regular season games before putting him over Crayton. Sure Crayton dropped that one crucial pass, but Crayton had a fantastic game against the poor Rams. I seem to remember two drops that Austin had against Washington.

I like Crayton, and he was good until T.O. went down... that's because he's a good complimentary receiver to T.O.

But I would prefer to have a healthy Glenn or a newly born Austin serving as then deep threat opposite T.O. if I could choose.

I was hoping to read Austin pushes Crayfish off a bridge !!!!! Well one can only hope
COME ON JERSEY BOY kick that ex qb big mouth back to TULSA !!!!!!

If you are saying that Hurd has proven himself to an extent that he couldn't be beaten out then I think you are mistaken.

Austin isn't an "underdog". Amendola is an underdog. Jerheme Urban was an underdog.

Austin is a player the team has invested time into in the hopes that he could develop.

And as far as physical tools, Austin has em. Size, speed and ability to get behind the defender. And like all the guys competing for playing time, he does have some things he needs to work on. His hands are the main thing but that can be improved. From the reports so far, that has improved.

I fully believe that Austin will make the roster. I don't know who could possibly bump him off of it. I think Miles would have to regress a TON in order to lose his spot. Hes working hard and improving. As long as he continues to do those two things, hes on the team because he has the things that can't be taught and once he starts to put the rest together he could be a solid contributer.

I'm not prognosticator but I think if Austin starts to hang on to the ball, he passes Hurd on the depth chart.

As far as him taking Crayton's spot. I think it has to do more with Caryton's exceptional ability and effectiveness as a slot receiver that gives Austin that possibility. Without Glenn, I think its completely possible that the team try to put Austin across from TO just to get Crayton into the slot. In fact, I think the team might try any of the WRs across from TO if they believe he can command as much respect and attention as Crayton. Personally, I think Austin can do that and maybe a little more as far as stretching the field.

But, like already mentioned by many........Austin needs to get his hands workin.

What cb's has he proven he can get past other than GB's 4th corner?

I'm not saying he can't be good but he hasn't proven anything yet.
