The comment you were quoting was referring to Hatcher and the suggestion by some poster above that we missed on him because he wasn't starting. That's just stupidity, if you ask me.
As for Carpenter, see my other quote. Yes, Carpenter was a miss. A mistake. A blown pick. A bust. Whatever you want to call him. No one disagrees. So the question with him is: now what? You don't cut the guy just because he did not justify where he was picked. You only cut the guy if he cannot contribute to the team.
At this point, people need to get over the fact that Carp was a bad pick and ask the only relevant question: can he contribute to this team?
Marc Colombo was a bust of a 1st round pick for the Bears. So what? The only relevant question to ask of him is whether he provides value, and the answer is yes. Arguably Leonard Davis was a bit of a bust for the Cardinals too. So what? What's in the past is in the past.
Why keep talking about Carpenter earning his draft position? It's pointless. That discussion is over and done with. Nothing is accomplished by harping on that. The question is "can he contribute" not "did he earn his pick." The latter is just mindless drivel to whine about the past.
At this point we have to quit holding it against Carpenter and just evaluate him as a player and whether he provides value to the team. If he does, then great. If he doesn't, then he should go. It is the height of stupidity to run him out of town when he can be a contributor just because he did not earn his draft position. But damned if that is not what some of you are demanding.
