Commanders have been getting A's in free agency for years now. Hasn't translated to any championships, so take these grades with a grain of salt.

That is completely false. Back in the huge spending days, we looked foolish and mostly received D's and low C's for spending stupid money. We have only received draft A's and free agency A's since Scott took over. When is the last time Commanders spent "big money"? Albert Haynesworth?

You joined the zone at an unfortunate time if your avatar name is any indication.

I joined when RG3 was a rookie. Awesome experience his rookie year being a fan of the Commanders. Thought he might have been the QB of our future. I was wrong and assume I can't change my name so I'll stick with it.

Let this be a lesson to you that the football team from Washington D.C. does not deserve nice things.

Hard to argue the grade. Heck it may even be a little bit generous. I am not sure what they are doing really. They are going at this like we have a huge window to win when the Romo window is almost shut. Of course the roster isn't the real issue anyway.

I think the even sadder part is my jersey collection. It's unfathomable how my sequence of my last 8 Commanders jerseys have went down. PS, they are usually gone from the team a year or 2 later and worthless.

Who cares what grade we get on April, before FA ens and before the draft. The only grade that really matters is what the records says the first week of January. We going to the playoff or not? Talking heads will talk, thats what they're paid to do. They have to fill a website or radio time in April so they come up with this type stuff in April.

.500 winning percentage over the last 20 years gives us a perpetual "C". Same over the last 5 years too, so "C" seems appropriate.

We'll fill the spots. It'll just be with mediocre players. That's ok in my book. I wish there were better players out there, but it is what it is at this point.

Everything is always just fine by you. Mediocre players? No problem. Mediocre running backs, not a big deal. Jason Garrett, ah he is fine. Is there anything that troubles you about the Cowboys or have you just accepted the fact that this team is mediocre and that's about as good as we can hope for?

The fact that people still get their panties in a bunch over websites FA or draft grades is :lmao2:

Yes but no doubt had the draft or FA grades been stellar, the Cowboy glee club would be wailing and singing about them.

As with so many things, context that really matters gets lost on you.

Filling holes with mediocre free agents at a reasonable cost is not mediocre, because it keeps the team from paying a huge premium in a seller's market for unknown commodities. And it frees the team up to select better players in the draft.

The draft is where we need to drastically outperform other teams, and that's a well-accepted model of team building if you had any interest at all in being reasonable. I'm hardly advocating anything radical in saying that. Most posters get that I think. Actually, I know it, because I'm able to have perfectly reasonable conversations with most posters.

When you stop insulting me on your posts, we will have reasonable conversations. For now, I will try to continue by ignoring your insults.

For the most part, I absolutely agree with you that spending wildly in FA isnt a good philosophy. It is certainly what has gotten us in trouble in the first place. Now most teams that spend in FA simply havent drafted well. And they need to fill holes by spending big in order to compete. The problem with the Cowboys is that they arent good enough in the draft. The ONLY place I feel they are up to par or better than the competition is their ability to sign undrafted FA's.

And lets face it, the Cowboys simply dont manage the cap well enough to spend big in FA. That is more the reason they are being wise more than anything. If Jerry had 40 million in cap space, trust me, he would be spending it. But again, we will probably never get there because of the way we mismanage the cap.

So the reality is that we have a team that does mediocre in the draft and doesnt add much quality talent in FA. So the problem should be obvious. If the draft and FA are the only two main areas where you can build a team and we dont do much in one and are mediocre at the other, then how would you expect us to ever build a championship team? Through a Herschel Walker type trade? Not likely. Luck? Probably the most likely.

And lets face another huge reality....................Jerry isnt good at drafting or developing young QB's. Its almost like he doesnt even do it. And soon, that will be the next big hurdle we will have to over come. He has an opportunity this year to do something about it. And by all accounts he will pass on it.

Then we get to the problem that he seems to prefer puppet/mediocre head coaches that he can influence. Throw all this together and you have the reason that many fans have been so down on the Cowboys and frustrated. Then of course you can just look at the results of the team to backup everything I have just said.
