Canty gets talked about a lot for occupying blockers, but he was also a primary DT on the nickel and his stats never reflected it. Marcus Spears logged fewer snaps and wasn't in the game on obvious passing downs, but he was right behind Canty in tackles and ahead of him in TFLs.
Maybe Canty can flourish in the Giants 4-3 with rush ends getting all the attention. In fact, he better, because that is what they are paying him to do.
If Canty doesn't progress to the next level, he may likely get released in a couple of seasons.
Yeah. Canty got big money, because he played on third down, inside. However, Canty didn't do as well as Jason Hatcher did (inside) during his rookie year, imo.
Igor Olshansky was cheaper, because he didn't play on third down. The Giants over paid (big time), imo.
