PFW: Dallas showed interest in 49ers OT Damane Duckett; prelim talks with Barber?

believe me I love Cricket. He'd still be a part of this team.

If only to keep the locker room pest-free... :D

Owen Schmitt would be an upgrade, IMO. I never fail to upgrade if there is a prime chance no matter how loyal I am to a player and believe me I love Cricket. He'd still be a part of this team.
He has got size like a Fullback, nastiness like a d lineman, and he is ugly as hell like an o lineman.

Sign him up!

And a bad hairdo.

Promise him he will be the featured RB in 2008. Do not use a day 1 pick on a RB unless it is 3rd round on WVU FB Owen Schmitt and that is to open holes for the Barberian.

so then who becomes the scatback RB with the speed...?

I too would like to see Barber the featured back, but at 20 - 25 carries a game, how long before he became ineffective throughout the course of a 16 game season?

I like the JJ MB3 rotation now, but it just doesn't work anymore in Dallas. It seems to be less and less effective as the season gets older. But... we still have the playoffs to see what happens.

JJ just seems to need a change of scenery to get his confidence back... He could be a stud in the Bronco's system IMO.

The same thing is/has been said about a LOT of rbs. JJ's ability to find the running lanes is suspect, so unless he has a line like minnesota's...hope he enjoyed his years in the big leagues!

I think JJ can still have a solid career, he's still pretty young, and it took his brother a couple of years to get it too. I'm just tired of seeing him run into the back of linemen and fall down.

Could be Tyson Thompson, though I doubt it. Could be the kid on the Practics Squad, Alonzo Coleman from Hampton. Could be a day 2 draft pick, which is most likely. I fail to see how not drafting a RB on Day 1 of the Draft closes the door on the idea of Barber as the featured back.

I personally like the idea of the 2 back platoon and would feel more comfortable drafting one in the first day (assuming we don't bring JJ back).

If Barber's our primary back and he were to go down w/ a significant injury, I don't think I'd feel very comfortable w/ having Thompson, Coleman or a late rd pick be own primary ball carrier.

I don't like the idea of MBIII gettin 20 carries a game for that exact reason.

I'm pretty sure you're not admonishing my first stance, because I'd like to see Barber in a starting role myself... but, it would be nice to pair him with someone reliable and fast. That's what I was stating, the effectiveness of a 2 back system.

Plus, it's been nice to go through a full season with very minimal fumbles... Barber and JJo have had only one fumble between the two of them and it was... Barber. JJo hasn't had the opportunity to get into that mode. Maybe next year in Denver.:p: :laugh1:

3rd round is not a first day pick :laugh1:

Every team in the NFL has this problem, but not every team in the NFL has a 1st rounder as their 2nd RB. I think it's a little ridiculous to suggest you need to get an RB in the first round in case your RB gets hurt, in that case, let's draft a QB in the first round in case Romo gets hurt.

Until the change the format it is. Rounds 1 through 3 on Day 1. 4 through 7 on day 2.

They were tinkering with moving round 1 to Friday but I don't think that happened. Also tinkering with less time for picks. But if the 3rd round moved out of Day 1 that is news to me.

I can see JJ in Denver.

I think Coleman may surprise a lot of folks next year.

I agree i sure hope he does become the featured back next year. Enough of this running back by. committee parcells garbage & draft a real fullback who can block & catch in the draft. I don't see deon anderson as that key ingredient coming off that injury next year. We've had to many injury prone fullbacks these last couple of years.

wouldnt be surprised he goes in the 2nd

Norm said last week that he woundn't be suprised if the Cowboys want after 2 RB's this offseason. One to platoon with Barber and the other as an insurance policy in case of injury.
