Phil Taylor is move way up the Draft Boards

I think you got it figured out. I have never seen any info coming from the Cowboy`s staff that a bid NT is a want or need. A big NT is just another change that the fans want , nothing more.

It will be interesting to see how much liberty Jerry & Co. will give Ryan with the defense.

To me, he's either take one of two approaches:

1. The "hey, we pretty much have great pieces here, they just need coaching-up...." approach.

or

2. "If I'm gonna sink or swim, I want my kind of players running my kind of scheme..."

If it's approach #2, I think you'll see some changes to the defense like what kind of NT we use. With the Raiders, Ryan used a guy like Gerard Warren (6'4" 330 lbs) and was able to revive his career with the Raiders before heading off to New England. In Cleveland he used Shaun Rodgers.

It will be interesting to see how he approaches this thing.

Idk I think Josh Price-Brent has a pretty good chance to start at NT(unless we get a NT in FA...aka the browns NT last year). He did sign a 3 year deal and is a guy we picked up in the sup. draft. He missed alot of things (offseason work, combine training and mini camps) and still played pretty good. Let him get back up to 330LB's and a full offseason(hope he lifts and works with ratliff). Brent looks quick and he hustles alot for a guy his size.

I don't think we will be looking at a NT for until round 4 or later. Unless Taylor makes it to our 3rd.

I don't think he's a first round pick if Terrance Cody isn't. Cody's college resume was much better than Taylors.

I think Taylor's real problem is his endurance. I watched his bowl game but didn't start looking for him till later in the game and was completely unimpressed by him. He was getting stone walled one on one.

If he gets his cardio up, he can certainly be a good NT in the NFL. We have the luxury of being able to rotate him with Brent and of course Ratliff who has plenty of NT experience and could still play the position on passing downs.

I think we are the perfect team for him to land on.

Good point.
I will be happy but anxious about picking him

It's "Jorvorskie", and yes, Taylor is like Lane plus a penchant for violence

Lol, I think at this point "Jorvorskie" would just be glad someone is even thinking about him, let alone spelling his name correctly.

I have been thinking Taylor would be our 2nd round pick based on his climb up the board. I do agree that our 3rd would probably be better. If we stay at 9, I hope it is to take either Patrick Peterson or Cameron Jordan. Otherwise, trade down to the middle of the 1st, pick up an additional 2nd or 3rd and take an OT in the 1st. If they have 2 2nds they can take Marcus Cannon with one and someobody like Martez Wilson with the other. :)

Luckily for Taylor, his name isnt too difficult to spell.

The point is the Cowboys don't seem to be interested in the 330+lb NTs, whether it's elite prospect or a UDFA.

Josh Brent is the closest thing they've got at 6'2" 315.

You're right. If Ngata or Raji was there at 9 there is no chance we would be interested.

No chance we would have taken Wilfork either if he would have lasted to our pick.

I'm a Taylor fan but I don't think it is likely that they use a 1st or 2nd on a NT. If they do decide to draft one, it will probably be a 3rd or 4th rounder at the earliest. I still like the prospects in that range though...Jerrell Powe or Kenrick Ellis. I'd like to see them move Brent to DE and be our Ryan Pickett. I've seen flashes of him being a solid pass rusher (Giants game).

I think Spears and Hatcher will walk in free agency and Ratliff will probably play more DE but not a complete position switch.

DE: Bowen, Brent
NT: Ratliff, Draft
DE: Draft, Lissemore

I personally like Kendrick Ellis who's got the height/weight ratio similar to Phil Taylor but has less baggage and more upside.

If you consider multiple failed drug tests less baggage, then yes he's your guy.
