Like or dislike him, Parcells does have an eye for finding talent.

Even though four years had passed after Parcells left the Patriots, Bill Belichick inherited a number of Parcells' New England draftees who formed a good core for the Patriots' first Super Bowl team:

Troy Brown, Tedy Bruschi, Ted Johnson, Ty Law, Willie McGinest and Lawyer Milloy.

Phillips takes over a larger core of Parcells' drafted players who should make an even bigger impact:

Demarcus Ware, Jason Witten, Terence Newman, Julius Jones, Chris Canty, Patrick Crayton, Marion Barber, Marcus Spears, Anthony Fasano, Jason Hatcher, Bobby Carpenter, Pat Watkins, Bradie James (go LSU! I haven't given up hope yet!: ) and Jay Ratliff.

Now, Phillips only has to get all the pieces to fit this championship puzzle.

Should Parcells take credit for drafting Glenn, even though it was actually Robert Kraft who selected him?

carp and hatcher need more playing time.
Agreed. Carpenter came on strong at the end of the year, though. Hatcher's just raw, but he has tons of potential.

Its the only good thing he did while here... but it was very important for our future, at least he got something right.

I think he should also be given some credit for benching Bledsoe for Romo long before the season was lost.

I give Bledsoe the credit for being an idiot throwing that INT.

If you wanna mention that... I BLAME Parcells for not starting Romo at the beginning of the season.

Are you gonna telling me the games Romo missed at the beginning of the year were important to his growth?

No way, he should have been in from day 1 of the 2006 season.

In hindsight, I would have to say that he should have started from day one. But his growth at quarterback this year didn't end the team's season prematurely. It was Romo's inability to properly grasp that slick ball which did. THAT I blame on Parcells since he shouldn't have been put in the position of holding for kicks after he was made the starter.

Just another fact that Parcells was terrible as a coach.

Great peronel guy IMO... but as for game type decisions, he made :banghead:

You left out Gurode whose playing in his first pro bowl. I know Parcells didn't draft him but Parcells though Gurode had enough talent to sign him to a one year extension where he finally showed the talent Cowboys saw when he was drafted in 02.

Also don't forget we don't know yet what we might have in McQuistan -- it will be interesting to find out if Soprano & Garrett see the talent in McQuistan that Parcells saw. Same thing goes for young WRs like Austin, Hurd & maybe Rector. TC this year will be real interesting.

BTW: You also left off Matt McBriar who we signed as a FA. I think these players also need be included when you talk about Parcells GM ability.

Defensive talent?
I'll give him that.
Offensive Line talent?
Dismal.

And if McQuistan turns out well, what will you say then?

Or you can just use Romo and end the discussion immediately.

All teams have golden opportunities with undrafted free agents.

It is knowing when to keep them and develop them that separates the wise from the weak.

Good thoughts, but I left off Gurode, Austin, Hurd, Rector and McBriar because Parcells didn't draft them. Still, he did acquire those guys, so you have a very valid point.

I'm also real high on McQuistan. His blocking needs a bit more seasoning, but what little I saw of his footwork looked very good for a big man.

Feh. Parcells is a competent personnel guy, nothing more. You have to remember that "his picks" were generally made on teams that were bad, on their way back up. He had more than a few picks in top half of the first round. If you don't get a good starter out of that you aren't very good at your job.

Parcells fans act like Parcells handed Bellichek a championship team. Bellichek is a better defensive mind than Parcells, with fantastic schemes that utilize pretty average talent to confuse most NFL coordinators and pick apart most offenses. Bellichek worked to develop Tom Brady into the second coming of Joe Montana.

Without those two things New England doesn't win a title. Parcells is very competent at the personnel game, but people who think he farts gold every draft day are just too sucked into the NY media hype.

The amount of draft picks isn't as important as the quality of drafts picks.

Wade has "more" BP picks to work with, but it's too soon to say whether they will be as good as the crop BP left behind for BB.

Parcells didn't acquire Gurode. Gurode was drafted by the cowboys in 2002. And if I'm not mistaken, Rector had already bounced around a couple practice squads before getting to Dallas.

AND... let me say for the record that Carpenter would have been a marginal player under parcells and Spears probably would have been cut next preseason. I think there are pretty good odds that both will prove to be + starters in Phillips' scheme. I am just annoyed that when this happens we will again have to hear the NY media talking about how these guys were "Parcells' Finds". :p

I absolutely agree that Parcells assembled a great team. He just had lost interest in coaching them for some reason. Wade should thank his lucky stars.

We do look good on paper, however, when some of this bunch get between the lines.........aw shucks hits them
