This Phillips kid is something special. I re-watched the game with lots of slow-mo and replays and paid special attention to him. He has played the majority of downs, which is indicative of what the Cowboys think of him.

He's amazing. So far in my review (the whole first half) he has made a good block on *every* *single* running play. I've never seen such a thing.

Unlike Cricket who sometimes seems like he's unsure who to block--and often finds no one---this Phillips kid is Mr. Reliability.

I honestly wonder at this point who is our #2 tight end. When Bennet is healthy again it will be interesting to see who gets the most reps. Phillips isn't as big and strong but you can tell he's quite athletic.

It's a great asset in the game today to have three good tight ends.

I thought he had a very good game.

Phillips definitely appears like he will develop into a good 2nd/3rd TE type and has good value given where we picked him.

We have to learn to pull a Patriots and get value for these types of players while we can. Phillips is good, and is showing it. He will never take reps from Witten or Bennett. Same with Choice, it's sad but it's true.

When I saw one of his catches yesterday I was cheering witten. That says slot about phillips.

(I didn't notice the number the running and the catch seemed like witten)

The ONLY thinrg Bennet has shown is that he is a CLOWN. I would try to get my 2nd rounder back from him as SOON as I can

We have a slow, sure-handed, talented blocker in Witten. We don't need a clone of him as the #2.

Interesting.

So you're saying we don't need a replica of the best player at his position in the NFL....can I assume we shouldn't want another OLB in the same mold as Ware?

I think you should rethink this little theory of yours.

Well if he can clone the best TE in the game I would take that everyday and twice on Sunday. He seems to be outplaying Bennett at this point in the season as well.

Sometimes it makes you wonder weather we should have taken that 1st rounder the Bengals offered us for Bennett.

There is a lot of truth here. Bennett seems more enamored with tweeting and acting the fool than he does his NFL career. Its still early, yes, but you can't deny that with his physical tools, he should be doing more than he's done to this point.

Maybe watching Phillips will help get his act together.

I can't say enough about the one phillips play where he turned inside and stayed in bounds rather than running out of bounds to keep the clock moving with 5 minutes an change. That was damn smart football right there.

you make me think that you are not rewatching anything, simply because you keep saying "after rewatching the tape, with lost of slo mo" so are you really watching tape?

Really? tell the truth.

Thank the game-planning more than anything else. We avoided shot-gun and the blocking up-front suited our standards. I wouldn't have expected a different game if Bennett was in the line-up. Phillips though did have that nice little grab when he broke away from the block to help Romo.

Bennett is more interested in making youtube videos than excelling at his position, top that with the fact that he's an Aggie and that's two strikes against him.

.......maybe he was under the illusion that he didnt have any competition behind him at the position.........

A coach like Jimma' Johnson would move Phillips up to 2nd spot on the rooster and try to lite a fire under Martellus after a game such as Phillips had.

Phillips reminds me a little of the Giant's TE Boss.

The Cowboys haven't been able to draft and develop OL lately but they sure have hit gold with the TE position in the recent past.

That play he made to stay in bounds was one of the most intelligent things I've seen a Cowboy player do in a long time.

We need more intelligent players, so as much as I love Bennett's talent...maybe they should explore dealing him in the offseason.

great, insightful and thoughtful posts on this issue. Phillips looks VERY SOLID but Bennett? Nothing but talk....kinda hope he's out a little longer..sad but true. He's just not all that effective IMO.
