IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys coach Wade Phillips is tired of hearing the NFL apologize for officiating mistakes.

The Cowboys were on the wrong end of incidents involving replay in their last two games. In Dallas' Nov. 15 loss at Green Bay, the Packers weren't penalized for throwing a challenge flag when they were out of challenges, and in the Cowboys' Sunday victory over the Washington Commanders, the crew made a series of errors on the same play. It ended up not hurting the Cowboys because the Commanders missed a field-goal attempt, but it still left Phillips steamed Tuesday.

"Well, I mean, it shouldn't (happen)," the coach said. "That's what they're paid to do. They're paid to go by the rules and make sure they know whether a team can challenge or whether a team can review something or not. That's what the officials are paid to do."

Phillips said he spoke with NFL officiating director Mike Pereira about it, and that Pereira is upset, too, because these errors go beyond judgment calls about things such as holding or pass interference.

"There shouldn't be any rules that they missed," Phillips said. "I think that's what Mike was upset about."

The Cowboys actually caught a break from the officials against the Commanders. Replays show that on Dallas' winning play, two offensive linemen were down the field. An official nearby missed it because he was watching to see if quarterback Tony Romo crossed the line before throwing the ball. He didn't, so no flag was thrown.

Asked if that came up with the league office, Phillips said: "No, because they weren't (illegally downfield). It wasn't called."

There is no crying in football. Wade is quickly wearing on me. There is zero point in talking publicly about officiating. Nothing good can come from it. In fact when that idiot college coach for the deadskins cried every week we were all laughing at him. Calling out the folks that have so much control over the game might just piss them off. We will see.

I hope it wakes some refs up who are calling our games. Wade is not taking anything away from the team by speaking out on this matter.

Not to go over the whole conversation we have already had about this, but I just think it could be done in private. That is my main point.

Dealing with players I would agree that is in house, if you watched the interview Wade does not bring it up he is asked by the media about what took place and Wade answered it. Sorry if you find that offensive I see all the other HC stand up and talk about these things but it seems no matter what Phillips says some are going to jump him. All I can say is if people want to be upset then be upset.

If he wears on you at 7-3, just imagine how annoyed you be if you actually had reason to complain.

When the head of league officiating calls a head coach to let him know he agrees that the team has been victimized by missed calls, the coach has a right to address the issue publicly without being accused of crying about calls.

Marshmallow rail.

Much ado about nothing. He just answered the question.

He wasn't sending in tapes and whining to the media ala Joe Gibbs.

I think sometimes it's okay to let the fans know you've made it an issue with the head of officiating, especially when that same head of officiating gets on TV every week and explains away his ref's errors almost systematically.

I did not watch the interview yet. It may come across differently. I do not find it offensive as such, it is just a pet peeve of mine. Complaining publicly about things you have no control over when there are so many thing that you can influence are going badly seems like a waste of time. He could have simply said "I will not comment on things beyond the scope of my team" or something to that effect.

Pleased as anyone here about the 7-3 start. I am a die hard rose colored glasses guy who thinks we have a good chance to go deep in the playoffs. A simple "no comment" on officiating would suffice. I just have a different view than some.

Not trying to argue with two posters I respect and agree with the majority of the time.

Didn't the guy from Florida do it on a weekly basis also?

There is no reason not to say what took place. Either way it would appear Wade is going to get knocked when he says something and knocked when he doesn't. No matter check out the link Hypnotoad provided at least you will have seen 1st hand of what Wade said
