After watching the Philly vs Minnie game I see some things that will cause us some trouble. The Philly offense is made around Wentz. So goes Wentz so goes the Philly offense. They have learned to cover up the weakness on their RT pass rush but Wentz still needs to complete his passes in three seconds or he runs or is sacked (he is still learning the game). The run game is not bad and can do damage. My prognosis is that the Eagles can be an above average offense but still makes mistakes. Cowboy’s defense will need to make Wentz uncomfortable in the pocket and come with stunts and blitzes that will confuse Wentz and good coverages to make him hold the ball longer as he can be sacked or throw interceptions.

The Philly defense is for real but can be run on when in standard formation. When they stack the box with 8 they are very good at stopping the run. This leads to them being open to the pass when doing TE and RB pass routes. With 8 in the box the passes need to be out in 2.5 seconds or a QB run. The passing game to the wide receivers will be our weak link for this game as the Philly defense is fast so no long passes. Short to intermediate passes will be the order of the day.

This is a good game for the Cowboys to play bump and cover the receivers to make Wentz hold the ball longer. A good pass rush on their right side can cause Wentz to be uncomfortable in the pocket and maybe a turn over or two. My best estimate is who wins the turn over game will win.

This is a hard game to predict as these two teams both have Rookie QBs. But what I saw in the Minnie game is that Philly will make their Rookie QB make a lot of decisions on his own. If the cowboys plan right I think that the Cowboys can force the Philly QB to make Rookie mistakes. This is where I can make a prediction that the Cowboys will win the time of possession and turn over battle. Cowboys 28 – Philly 21.

Another way to gauge the Philly defense is to watch the Washington game. Cousins and their run game shredded that defense into pieces. I think the best way to beat that defense is to have a balance attack. That is what Washington did. Philly seems to excel in defensing teams that are one dimensional on offense. Hence their ability to contain Minnie and the Steelers. We are the most balanced offense that Philly has seen this year. Thus they can't just pin their ears back and play the pass.

Stay disciplined
Play physical
On offense: run the ball effectively and no turnovers
On defense: pressure the WV and stop the run

It is not complicated

Yes it is! It is how you plan those attacks that win or loses the game. The game of football is about strategy and tactics and of course execution. Knowing a strategy but not the tactics will loose you a game. The Patriots coach is a master of both and the reason they are winners every season (doesn't hurt to have Brady either). The devil is in the details and the coaching staff that knows this is usually very good.

Play tight man to man coverage. Most of phily's passes are cross routes or screens. Take this away and you will see Wentz confused which will result in turnovers.

Philly has a below average group of WR's. They are trying to trade for Torry Smith after all. They have ability at the TE position. Wentz is mobile but has shown to force the ball into some coverage in the middle of the field. They have lost confidence in Ryan Matthews due to 2 bad fumbles the last 2 weeks. The rookie RT is still shaky.

Their defense is good if you let them dictate what you do on offense. They do like to pressure the offenses into mistakes. It will be great to watch because everyone pretty much knows our running game won't just give up and be abandoned throughout the game. Having this balance should keep the defense from trying to be too aggressive.

I just don't see them being able to stop us enough and I also can see Wentz force some throws if we get the lead on them.

The common ingredients so far to much of Philly's success: turnovers and big plays in special teams. You limit or eliminate those two things and we win handily. They won't be able to win without those being a factor.

Sean Lee in beast mode is scary to watch. I cringe at some of those hits. I don't want to be a receiver on the other team with him on the field. Hits like that get into your head and you are always a little skittish to catch the ball up in the air with him around. I think Sean's play will have a big impact on the game.

The book on Wentz is to keep him in the pocket and if anything, avoid the roll out to the right. His pocket presence has been poor as he doesn't feel the pass rush very well. It's a WCO, but I question how well their WR's can fight off jams as they weren't very good under Kelly at fighting off jams. I can see them using a lot of rub routes to combat those issues. The Cowboys defense has been much better this season on the rub routes, but if I were a coach I would still test them.

Defensively they are very stout, but susceptible against the run. They tend to overcommit which plays into Dak's ability to bootleg. I can see us trying to get a lot of high % passes because the Eagles defense really flies out there. I think the key here is getting enough mis-direction runs with EE and getting them at the right time that the Eagles over-commit. I can see big runs coming off a fake jet sweep to Lucky or some mis-direction screen passes and bootleg lefts.

I heard that was the gameplan for Rodgers and that is part of the reason we decided to rush 3 guys.

Dallas wanted Rodgers to beat them from the pocket and didn't want him getting outside of the pocket and making plays so instead they had another DB and spied Rodgers if he decided to run.

I imagine the same plan will be in place for WEntz.

Gameplan stays the same offensively. The only caveat is IF NEEDED i would double Fletcher Cox to make sure he doesn't blow things up by himself. Otherwise i dont think the DL can hold up w/out the services of Logan.

It's a bye week, so i'd imagine you will see Marinelli throw some wrinkles into the gameplan. But as others have said, i'd imagine you'll see a gameplan centered on keeping Wentz in the pocket.

Dallas wins by 8-10+ pts, as long as they don't give up any STs TDs or short field scores to Philly.

I think the strategy is Cowboys continue to play balanced offense. When Philly starts stacking the line make them pay with the pass in their normal front they can't stop our run game.

Defensively again Cowboys must continue to play their game. We are not a great blitz team so the Cowboys must pick and choose spots when they blitz. Outside of that I think Dallas must continue the bend but don't break and when you get Philly in 3rd down situation Cowboys need to win a good portion of that battles.

Cowboys should be committed to running the football. If the Commanders can gain 200 plus yards on the ground without a mobile qb, imagine what the Cowboys can do.

The only way Philly can win is if Cowboys stink it up on ST and be careless with the football.

I expect Philthy to take chances and sell-out to stop the run, daring Dak to beat them passing the ball. I expect Dallas to keep playing like they have been, just like the old days when opposing teams knew what was coming but couldn't stop it. Zeke busts through for some monster runs, Dak keeps his slow but steady consistency in converting third downs.

I expect Dallas to play Wentz just like they did Rodgers, rush 4 and flood the secondary with defenders, keeping everything in front of them. I also expect the DL to have success this week in getting to Wentz, leaving his jersey looking like he was attacked by a pack of dogs.

General Lee owns Philly. Seems to really elevate his play vs. them. I like him to get his first INT of the year by baiting Wince.

They do not have an offense to fear. Jam those receivers at the line and play man to man and they will struggle.

I like this post as there are some very good analysis here and will make watching the game that more interesting. We should revisit this post after the game to see how well we did with predictions.

I thought that was obvious when I was watching the Green Bay game unfold. People here were complaining about the lack of pass rush, but we were only rushing 3 or doing a lot of mush rushing and Rodgers couldn't connect with his receivers.

I tend to think we'll blitz a little more and get the rushmen more upfield against Wentz. While everybody was praising him as the next Peyton Manning, I saw a very gifted athlete that struggles to feel the pass rush and I think there are big plays for the defense to be had against him.

Am I misremembering or did La'el Collins have better success vs Cox than Leary used to? I think Cox is the one guy he's struggled with more than once. But hopefully his reworked body helps him manage him better

Philly scored 14 offensive points. That's it. They struggle on offense.

And before you say that was Minnesota's defense at work, remember that Washington did the same thing to them. Wentz took a beating against the Commanders. Ryan Matthews is a No. 2 back at best. The receivers are awful, which is why they're hunting Torrie Smith. The offensive line is just horrible.

Defensively, the Eagles are really good. But so was Cincinnati and Green Bay. The Cowboys offensive line can neutralize Philly's greatest strength.

The only way Dallas loses this game is if Dak has a bad night and starts throwing picks.
