Of course drafts are part of being a GM, but not all of it.Drafts are apart of being a gm. I read Howie has made over 40 trades since being there.....I guess if you trade that many times you are bound to hit on 3 of them.
Last I checked, McCarthy has a Super Bowl win as well as several playoff victories.
Compared to Garrett? The guy is Vince Lombardi.
So you give McCarthy that credit over Rodgers? Either way........McCarthy has been bad all year. But ok. IMO, he'd be out of the league if it wasn't for Rodgers.
Of course drafts are part of being a GM, but not all of it.
Talent acquisition and roster maintenance are the name of the game.
The simple fact is that Roseman may be pulling off 40 trades to hit on them, plus pull additional draft capital into the mix.
That is going the extra mile and doing whatever it takes to improve. Back in the Jimmy Johnson era, the sign on the door always said open for business. Trades brought depth talent into the fold like Charles Haley, Steve Beuerlein, Tony Casillas, Thomas Everett and Dale Hellestrae.
What has our GM done? Pinch pennies, hoard tradeable talent and misevaluate our own roster. The point is, we have slow activity on the continuous improvement front and hope is a strategy.
Jones has failed repeatedly to address depth concerns that have torpedoed entire seasons. Existing talent has been overvalued, rosters have been "set" going into drafts. We have not developed relationships with many teams that keeps trade avenues restricted.
Yes, the draft quality has improved, but as I keep hearing around here, when it doesn't work out, it is a "crap shoot" anyway.
So, I just want to make sure I have it all straight.
Free agency is bad.
Trades are not worth the time.
Depend solely on the crap shoot.
Got it.
Who won when Dallas and Green Bay played?
Refresh my memory.
And do you honestly think that Garrett would still be around if not for favoritism from an owner and Tony Romo saving his ***?
Seriously?
Howie is taking the approach of a MLB gm in a season where they are going all for it. I'm not knocking that. I respect it.
We can talk about all the moves he's made and all the trades he's made but the discussion should start with Wentz.
I thought it was stupid to go and trade up for Wentz and glad we didn't have too.....but how he was able to steal a 1st rounder from the Vikings....was either genius or criminal.....made trading up for Wentz not hurt nearly as bad as it should've.At least you admit it. That is a good start.
That move took guts to go up and get a kid from North Dakota State. Looks like it paid off. But he does not even get close if he did not pull off other moves to collect the draft picks.
Did Aaron Rodgers not play in that game? Have you seen them since he went down?
And Garrett would've been fired too. You are the one arguing over McCarthy and Garrett. I want no part of that debate. You can choose which crap you want but I'd prefer neither.

I'll see you and raise you one Jason Garrett and 2015. What else ya got?
Cover your eyes then. One guy has won a Super Bowl and been to four NFC Championship Games. The other hasn't come close.
If that's "equal" to you, you need your eyes checked.
It did. I'm not a fan of doing trades like that because I've seen them fail more than succeed....but it worked out for the Eagirls. Won't take that from them. It's showed up in the win column and that's all that matters. No arguing that last point.
The Sam Bradford heist greatly reduced the overall cost for Wentz. But, even if that didn't happen, Wentz is well on his way to looking like he was worth everything the Eagles gave up to get him. Leading the league in touchdown passes in year two and his team to the best record in the league.
Garrett and McCarthy are pretty similar. Stubborn and too myopic with the side of the football they are not familiar with.Naw not better coached....Mcvey....ok.....McCarthy and co. Are even worse than what we have here.
so the eagles have less quality players and are doing that much better?Take the eagles 3 best players besides the QB off the team and tell me how they turn out. I’m not even sure the eagles have 3 all-pro players so really there is zero comparison
Garrett would've won a Super Bowl too if he had the best qb in the league. You giving him credit for that year is hysterical. Even Packers fans will tell you how bad he is.

I think they both are bad but I won't argue in favor of either one. Garrett at least has a winning season without Romo. Packers look like we did when Romo went down two years ago.Garrett and McCarthy are pretty similar. Stubborn and too myopic with the side of the football they are not familiar with.
McCarthy has a similar kind of arrogance and staleness to what he does. Same bad problems on defense (old man coordinator) and they never get fixed.
Rodgers has covered up his warts just as Romo did for years for Garrett.
But I still would take him over Garrett. He at least has guided a team to a Super Bowl. That one achievement alone makes him superior.
No, what's "hysterical" is a Cowboys fan somehow trying to put Jason frickin' Garrett in the same Universe as a coach who has won a Super Bowl and been to four Championship Games.
The only thing you're succeeding at doing here is indicting your own credibility. You're killing it in that department!
I watch Packers games almost weekly when the Cowboys aren't playing....McCarthy is bad.
