Phrases we still use that no longer make sense

Day/Night is for the one's awake. So my phrase isn't acceptable here. Good. I see differently I guess.
I didn't have an issue (took me a minute to realize it's gone) but could see where it's better served in the music thread. Give examples as to why rock holds the test of time where rap doesn't or won't, etc.
 
Cash on the barrelhead.

Came from the time when business was conducted over a barrel, and the money was laid on the top of the barrell when paying. This one is started to fall out of use, but I do still hear it.

It it related to that expression, "He has him over the barrel"? which means he has all the leverage in the transaction.
