From ESPN

Butler has the size and quickness to line up at the rush-end position in a 3-4 look. His quick first step and explosiveness off the edge makes him one of this year's most intriguing midround pass-rushing prospects. However, Butler must get stronger at the point of attack and be more consistent as an open-field tackler.

6-2 238 4.65
Looks like an OLB to me.

Eh... Not too enthused with this one...
another project in a draft full of them, but this is the worse pick, IMO.

don't sleep on this guy, one of the top pass-rushers in the country, a football player through and through

You are right. I'm very happy with this pick. Big school production.

Feed the front. :)

I liked Sidbury better, but Butler is better than a sixth-round pick for a 3-4 defense. He was an extremely productive pass-rusher (12 sacks this season, 10.5 last season) in the Pac-10 and a first-team All-Pac-10 pick.

Sidbury's fall is puzzling.

Great post. It's so good. It needs to be at the end of the thread again, so it is seen.

I think this is our best selection so far...he's going to really push spencer on passing downs....the stats listed here are wrong, and he was the best pass rusher in the PAC 10, making all first team....21.5 tackles for loss and 12 sacks in this single season....he was a beast in the USC loss and caused and recovered a key fumble in that game.

You guys are judging without knowing anything...this guy is far superior as a prospect to the kid from TExas, Williams, or Sidbury from Richmond...I saw that kid...JMU pushed him around all game...he has no moves.

Why so many OLBs?
We need at least one ILB in this draft.
Common Jerry, this was a bit of a reach.
The man was good at Oregon State, but there are other needs in the roster.

I think you'll see the first kid, Jason Williams, play ILB...he's got the size, but better speed than Burnett had.

Good, glad to hear that.

It's clear from even the selection of Spencer that Wade prefers production over raw athletic numbers.

Which some will complain about, but then the immortal Lamarr Woodley was the same way -- too short and too slow.

They all have the size.
First dude used to be a S, so that will help in coverage.
We still need a S and WR though.
Picking up some OL in G and C wouldn't hurt either.

It's too bad Jerry chose the wrong time to get itchy and traded up to get Spencer instead of just staying put for Woodley. Looks like he's being patient this draft, we'll see if the results are better in a season or two. :)

Already been discussed.

Of course it has, that's not gonna stop people from asking about it 25 more times throughout the day though ;)

Butler earned Sun Bowl MVP after racking up 11 tackles, including five tackles for loss, four sacks and a forced fumble against Pittsburgh and showed surprising fluidity when operating in coverage while at the East-West Shrine Game.
