Pick your Duo in Round 1

give me option A

I solidify the back end and I get a Great Lb prospect we absolutely need.

Dont love either but I would take B.

Thieneman is higher than Allen for me.

The way I see it

  • Styles is a top 5 player in this class, no holes in his game.
  • Downs is a top 10 player in this class, no holes in his game.
  • Allen is probably a 25-40 guy. Solid starter at a low-value position who's not going to be bad, but might not be that good.
  • Theineman is more of a 40-60 guy. Guy at a low-value position who might be really good (high football IQ, my #1 priority among safeties), but might be really bad (small and a straight-up poor tackler, probably my #2 priority among safeties).
I suppose I'd take the Downs/Allen combo between the two.

Think you are low on Thieneman...Top 30 in Bruglers latest list and I think he could go end of 1st.

I like how Thieneman always ends up around the ball, but he doesn't always make the play. He's got some bad misses where he over-pursues the ball carrier, runs straight into a blocker, gets punished with a stiff arm, etc. You could make a Yakety Sax montage out of his lowlights.

Some of those misses are a result of the huge volume of tackles he attempts, and I'd like to see his missed tackles stat as a percentage. But my impression is that he's a lot less reliable than I'd want for a top 20 safety.

Hard to pass up Downs but I take B. Theinmann is going to be a great safety too but he won't be the general of the secondary like Downs.

Fair...but I would be interested to see that missed tackle stat as well.

Having 3 years in a row of 90+ tackles is insane IMO especially considering he was also playing some center field at Purdue.
